Went to a meditation meeting where they read from the Big Book of AA and said the prayers from the program. They shut out the lights, lit candles and played music for 10 minutes. A woman with over 30 years sober said, "It is good to be here, my life is so busy, I don't often get time to meditate." I wanted to go to her and say, "How have you stayed sober this long." It sounded like she was still using "busy" to take her out of herself so she didn't have to look at herself. I know I got involved in service, doing good things, but wasn't taking the time to work on myself the way I should and as a result, I was a late bloomer. I was sober, but didn't often achieve sobriety and serenity. Sobriety for me is soundness of mind. My mind is not good unless I talk to my God.
