Never Knew
Never Knew
Mustard Seed Thoughts We took such a violent battering from the storm that the next day they began to throw the cargo overboard. On the third day, they threw the ship's tackle overboard with their own hands. When neither sun nor stars appeared for many days and the storm continued raging, we finally gave up all hope of being saved. Acts 27:18-20 NIV Remember the song, “Momma never told me there be days like this...”? Maybe Momma never did, but the Bible does not hide the storms from us. We can read this passage about Paul’s voyage to Rome and find hope for our storms of life. Everything worked out well. Are you surprised? But, if we only had the portion of the trip I have chosen by today’s verses, then we would be looking at the story out of context, wouldn’t we? Paul does make it to Rome. Paul is saved. The people traveling with Paul are saved. Paul is reminded by an angel not to be afraid. There is a miraculous hedge of protection placed around them and God delivers them from this peril! All is good! But, from the smaller perspective, in the middle of the storm, things couldn’t look any more bleak. Isn’t that the way it is in our lives today? Maybe right now you are going through a storm. If you capture just this portion of your life, step back and look at it, things may not look like they will work out for good. But, if you look at them from God’s perspective, seeing the whole plan, God may have a few miracles for you! Are you taking your trials out of context? Are you focusing on the storm rather than the Storm Calmer? Are you “giving up all hope of being saved” before the end of the story has been revealed? Why not step back, rest in the arms of Jesus, and wait on Him to deliver you safely to the other side? When the storm is gone, you will be able to seen the Hand of God, and you will once again know that He is always in control! Oh, may we wait ’til then!
