Time
One of our greatest friends and enemies in recovery is time. When new to recovery we start to become aware of our problem and want to be better right away. It doesn't work like that. We didn't become sick overnight nor do we recover that way. It takes time, nothing can be done to push it along any faster. It takes ten years to get ten years of sobriety. The greatest thing about the recovery fellowship is that it gives us the opportunity to buy that time that we desperately want and need. One day at a time is how that's done and after all those days start adding up we look back upon them as we would like an old friend, one we that we have a great affection for.
