Default Make Space Not Haste

MAKE SPACE NOT HASTE

This time of year so many of us are cleaning out. We are getting rid of old things we don’t need any more and decluttering our homes. We go from room to room cleaning and giving away things we don’t need. But what about where we spend our time? What about the clutter in our minds? Our house does need decluttering but we do as well! We need to make space in our hearts, minds and souls getting rid of the things that are not of God.

One way to declutter our lives is to remove some of the things we are doing that are not really important…things that are not adding value to our lives or the lives of others…or bringing glory to God. Another way to make more space in our lives is to schedule some down time. After getting rid of things we don’t need to be doing, we can schedule some time doing what we enjoy. Life doesn’t have to be cluttered with busy work. We need to plan a little rest and recreation.

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 127:2 “It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you spend a lot of time doing.
2. List ways you can cut back.
3. Know God wants you to spend more time with Him.
4. Remember God wants you to take time to relax and enjoy life.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, please help us today to think about what we are doing. We want to look at where we are wasting time. We want to examine our motives for working. We want to make space in our lives. We need more space to spend time with You. We need more space to rest. We need more space to enjoy the blessings You have for us. Help us to stop staying so busy that we don’t take time to enjoy life and be grateful for what we have. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Proverbs 12:11 “A hard-working farmer has plenty to eat, but it is stupid to waste time on useless projects.” (GNT)

Let’s be sure our motives to work too much are not due to jealousy or trying to keep up with others.

Ecclesiastes 4:4 “I realized the reason people work hard and try to succeed: They are jealous of each other. This, too, is useless, like chasing the wind.” (NCV)

God wants us to know that we need to follow His will for our lives.

Ecclesiastes 4:8 “I saw a man who had no family, no son or brother. He always worked hard but was never satisfied with what he had. He never asked himself, ‘For whom am I working so hard? Why don’t I let myself enjoy life?’ This also is very sad and useless.” (NCV)

FOCUS: Ecclesiastes 10:15 “Only someone too stupid to find his way home would wear himself out with work.” (GNT)

We stay sober and clean together - one day at a time!
