Like this, so often in recovery, we have to redirect our thinking to what is God`s Will. In the beginning, it was taking it off of ourselves, go to meetings and here other people`s experience, strength and hope, then I had to apply what was good for me to my life.
Then I had to redirect my thoughts toward myself and learn to take care of myself, because I am worthy of recovery. Instead of sitting on a pity pot and oh woe is me attitude, I had to realize that what I went through is what brought me to the doors of recovery and be grateful. I had to redirect the old thinking because it no longer served me in recovery. Even things in my first 5 years of recovery, and to be redirected in order to grow. When I thought I knew, on closer inspection, it was only the icing on the cake and it was the tip of the iceberg, there was so much more cold and darkness inside that I need to allow out and redirect my thoughts as to how I could change it. The best way to redirect things is to pray and ask for help.
