The Will of God
The Will of God
"May your will be done on earth as it is in heaven." - Matthew 6:10 Genuine prayer always asks that God's will be done, not ours. We might prefer it the other way around, but it is our will that often causes us problems. Prayer gets us in touch with the mind of God, and gives us the strength to do his will. This makes sense if we come to see that God's will is finally what is best for us. This, too, we learn in prayer. In silent communication with God, we learn many things that are ultimately for our own benefit. It is through prayer that we learn to accept the things we cannot change, and it is through prayer that we get the strength to change the things we can. Prayer teaches us to accept life, and through our acceptance of life we learn more deeply how to find God. Prayer does this for us, because it puts us in touch with God, and it is only in the presence of God that we learn to accept life. Acceptance brings wisdom and peace, the peace of God which soothes our lives and gradually enables us to do his will with joy. It is your will, Lord, that I want to seek. Your will is what is best for me, although I can't understand this until I learn to trust in you. Give me an increase of trust, for without this, I can't live in peace or know the beauty of your presence. Focus Your Day
