God’s Faithfulness

Read Lamentations 1:1 through 5:22

Have you ever been in a hopeless situation? Have you cried out to the Lord for relief from your suffering to no avail? Worse still, have you known that there was no one to blame but yourself? You knew the circumstances were the result of your poor choices and failure to obey God.

As much as we may regret what we’ve said or done, we can’t turn back the clock and undo what’s past. Neither could the people of Jerusalem in the days of Jeremiah. They had been warned again and again to repent and return to the Lord. Instead, they listened to false prophets and their feel-good messages. Then it was too late. Their enemies had overcome them and Jerusalem had been destroyed.

The Book of Lamentations records the sorrow of the people. But in the midst of their heartache and ours there is a ray of hope.

Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness (Lamentations3:22–23).

Prayer Suggestion: Ask the Lord to show you someone who needs words of hope.
