Do Not Worry

Read Luke 12:22-32

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
-Matthew 6:26 (NIV)

A few years ago, my husband lost his job. We had no money saved and our car broke down, leaving us with no transportation. We experienced an extremely difficult financial storm that threw our marriage and our family into a whirlwind. I worried that we would lose everything.

One day while reading my Bible at work, I remembered a familiar passage: Matthew 6:26. In this story, Jesus says that because our heavenly Father takes the time to feed even the birds of the air, we can trust God to take care of us, since we are even more valuable.

When I arrived home, I saw my youngest son on the porch, standing on a chair and staring intently upward. "Mama, look! It's a nest, and it has eggs inside!" he cried. A bird had laid five eggs in a nest, over a light post hooked to our house with five people living inside. God provides for the birds. How, then, could I not trust God - who loves me and who values my needs - to take care of my family? God did - and still does.

Shawana Brown (Tennessee, USA)
Prayer
Dear God, help us to trust your love and care for us, especially when life becomes almost more than we can bear. Amen.

Thought for the Day
God cares for the birds, and God will care for us.

We stay sober and clean together - one day at a time!
God says that each of us is worth loving.
