A Yoke for Two
A Yoke for Two Read Genesis 39:1 through 41:45; Matthew 11:7–30 Emily and Tim are exhausted. They both work full time, have young children, and help with older parents. They are worried about money. They don’t need it for extravagant items—they don’t even have cell phones or cable—but they struggle to meet just basic living expenses. Most days they’re on the go from early morning to late at night. They’re both physically and emotionally tired. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you” (Matthew 11:28–29). A yoke sounds like a heavy piece of wood. So is Jesus telling people to take on more of a burden in this Scripture? A yoke links two animals together. The two animals can walk the path together and share the burden, whether it’s a heavy load or plowing a field. Jesus isn’t asking people to put on His yoke so they can carry more; He’s inviting them to put on the yoke so He can share their burdens. When people reach the end of their ropes, God will support them. Prayer Suggestion: Lord, thank You for being willing to help with my burdens. Quicklook: Matthew 11:28–30
