Default Turn Away

TURN AWAY

Many of us struggle with focus. In order to focus well, we sometimes have to turn away. We sometimes need a break. Working at the computer is one example. When we stare at a computer long enough, we become tired. Our eyes begin to strain. Our back begins to hurt. We have to get up and move around. We need to take a break. In order to focus well on anything, we need to get away from it sometimes. Then we will come back fresh and ready to complete what it is we need to do. God tells us we need rest so we should periodically turn away from our work to get that rest.

Psalm 127:2 “It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones.” (NLT)

Dear Lord, help us to remember to rest today. Help us to remember to take breaks and not work all day long. We know that You will provide us with all we need as You always have. We know that You have plans for us and in those plans, we are to rest. Help us today to set aside a time to rest, to focus on You and to be renewed so we can continue to focus on doing Your will. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

God wants us to work hard but He also wants us to rest.

There is no work that is so important that we can’t take a break from it.

When we are working too hard and not resting enough, we may lose focus on God’s plan for us.

Doing what God calls us to do requires us to work but it also requires us to rest.
Even in the beginning, God did not work all the time. He took time to rest and so should we.

Genesis 2:2 “On the seventh day God had finished his work of creation, so he rested from all his work.” (NLT)

Focus today: We should take time to rest today after working to help us better focus and be obedient to God.

We are not dispensable or so with think. No one can do our job, certainly not the way we do it, and ours is the right way.

The things we tell ourselves when we are in our denial. It is always about the other person, certainly not me.

They use to call me Odd Job Jo at work, because if someone was away, sick, or fired, I did their job and mine too. I trained others, filled in for someone away from another department or they had an extra job to be done. I would burn out, and then I began using, trying to be the Almighty Jo, who could do everything and when she couldn't, she thought there was something wrong with her. I saw myself as less than, and then through my addiction, I was less than, because I no longer had the skills because the drugs and alcohol took over my life.

I turned away from others, became isolated. I turned away from my God in shame, because all I could see was one BIG sin. I turned away from friends and family, and had the biggest pity pot you ever saw.

I had to turn from my new old ways, and start a new. I turned to the program of AA for help. They led me to NA, Al-anon, and CA who say, "All mind altering substances."
