Controlling Anger
We are human. We get angry. When things don’t go our way or someone says or does something we don’t like, we may get angry. There are times when the smallest thing causes others to blow up in anger. We may not can control what others get angry about but we can control our own anger and how we respond to the anger of others. We can choose to show peace and love. Satan wants anger to control us. God wants us to practice patience. If we want rest and peace in our lives, we need to seek God’s word which can give us guidance on how to handle anger. SCRIPTURE: Psalm 4:4-5 “Don’t sin by letting anger control you. Think about it overnight and remain silent. Offer sacrifices in the right spirit, and trust the Lord.” (NLT) Ephesians 4:27 “for anger gives a foothold to the devil.” (NLT) ACTION STEPS: 1. Write how you handle anger. 2. List what the Bible says about anger. 3. Let God control your life rather than anger. 4. Know anger does nothing to help you or others. PRAYER: Dear Lord, we pray You will guide us to live a life free from anger. Help us to know how to respond rather than react. We know anger doesn’t help any situation. You tell us to be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to get angry. Help us to have gentle words to help situations not get out of hand. Help us to allow Your Holy Spirit to guide us away from anger so we are living a life that is pleasing to You. In Jesus’ name. Amen. REMEMBER: When we focus more on God’s word and less on this world, He will help us control our anger. Ephesians 4:31 “Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior.” (NLT) When we focus on more on the needs of others and how we can help them, we will think less of ourselves. James 1:19-20 “Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires.” (NLT) A right life is one that is free from anger. We don’t need to get angry or provoke others to anger. FOCUS: Proverbs 15:1 “A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare.” (NLT) https://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_p...log_id=6573360
