Daily Motivator - December
Your destiny awaits What can you choose right now that will make you wish you had chosen it a long time ago? Choose it, and go forward with it. What path do you know would be a very good one, that you’ve been hesitant to begin? Today, as you feel the courage to do so, take your first step on that path. Somewhere deep within, you know what will bring your life to a new level of fulfillment. Remind yourself that there’s no reason to put it off any longer. For so long it’s been all too easy to numb yourself with distractions of every sort. Yet through it all your purpose and your destiny have remained. Allow that purpose to fill your awareness. Realize, perhaps for the first time in a very long time, how right it feels and how essential it is. Go ahead and give in fully to who you know you are, to what you know you can do. Your destiny awaits. — Ralph Marston

Zero in on the positive The way you think about this moment, this day, this life, affects the way you live it. The way you live determines the life you experience. Just because you think something doesn’t make it true. Yet over time, through choices and actions, your thoughts do drive the reality of your life. In what direction are your thoughts pointed right now? Make sure it’s a direction you really want to go. Are you focused only on what has gone wrong and extrapolating that into more that will go wrong? Though it’s essential to acknowledge the difficult realities, you never have to do so from a negative perspective. Activate the power of your observation, your wisdom, your experience. Make an intentional choice to see the positive possibilities, and you will. Allow fear, anger, resentment, and worry to all fall away. Zero in on the positive and realistic possibilities, and go from there. — Ralph Marston

Be surprising If you’re only around people who say what you expect them to say, get around different people. If you always say what others expect you to say, get around different ideas. It’s great to be dependable, and great to deal with others who are dependable. Being predictable is a whole other matter. If you already know what someone else is going to say, there’s no point in having that conversation. If you merely repeat what you always repeat, why would anyone listen to you? Life is about more than just being spoon fed with validation. Life is best lived as a unique, surprising, original individual. Go where you will be surprised and challenged, where you can add new substance to your perspective. When you get there, offer some unexpected insights of your own. Sharpen your ability for novel, original thoughts, and then put that ability to good use. Be surprised, and be surprising. — Ralph Marston

Your time to live This is your time to live. This is your time to add beauty and value to the experience of life. Treasure this precious time. Protect it from meaningless distractions and destructive negativity by filling it with purposeful action. Time is steadily added to your life. Be just as steady in your use of it. Don’t waste your time. Don’t hurry through it. Give your love, attention, and care to every moment. Wherever you are, whoever you’re with, whatever you’re doing, do it with excellence. Take this time that is now yours and focus on fulfilling its highest possibilities. This is your time to live, and to give new richness to life. — Ralph Marston

You have what it takes You can find wisdom in every corner of life. Open yourself to it. You will gain knowledge and strength from every experience. That goes double, triple, ten times for the difficult ones. Get out there, get going, live and learn. Dig out new ways to transform that learning into richness, into beauty, into fulfillment. Stop wishing in vain that you could rearrange the past or be magically inserted into a different present. Reach within yourself and figure out what you can do with whatever you have, with whatever the situation may be. It will absolutely require some difficult choices, and you’re absolutely capable of making those choices. Go ahead, for your own sake, for your family’s sake, for the world’s sake, move forward with those choices. Decide right now to be a fully active participant in the future. You have what it takes, so put it all to good use. — Ralph Marston

Choose enthusiasm Enthusiasm makes life more alive. Give yourself some right now. Enthusiasm makes you more effective, more fun to be around, more persuasive. Enthusiasm adds powerful positive energy to everything you do. And the great secret about enthusiasm is this. You can choose to be enthusiastic no matter what the circumstance may be. It’s natural to assume that before you can be enthusiastic, you need something to be enthusiastic about. But the fact is, enthusiasm can create its own catalysts, its own objects of expression. You don’t need a wonderful, positive situation to be enthusiastic about. You can choose enthusiasm, and employ that enthusiasm to create the positive situation. Whatever the circumstance, you’ll put yourself at an advantage with enthusiasm. So choose enthusiasm, and put its positive power to work today. — Ralph Marston

Healthy challenges Much of the value of what you push toward is established by the resistance you encounter. Your muscles grow strong by being challenged, not by being assisted. The fact that any particular thing is difficult to obtain is what makes it worth having. Whatever comes with negligible effort has negligible value to you. Those who wish only to take from life without giving to life end up with nothing worth having. Your potential is too valuable to waste it on such a foolish pursuit. The best opportunity is not a situation that yields something for nothing. That is neither realistic nor sustainable. Seek instead those opportunities that ask the most of you. They’re the ones from which you’ll gain true richness. Go where the muscles of your body, mind, and spirit will encounter healthy challenges. That’s how you make life the best it can be. — Ralph Marston

That’s an opportunity Don’t let the massive value of right now be hidden from you by the fact that it is not perfect. Accept this moment as it is, and live it for the best it can be. Don’t ignore the opportunity of a lifetime just because it is inconvenient or uncomfortable. Make yourself realize what you have, right now, and put it to good and purposeful use. Any energy you expend on complaining is wasted energy. Instead of focusing on what’s wrong, focus on what you can do about it, and then do it. When life is unfolding pretty much as you expected, that’s an opportunity. When things fail to go as you hoped or expected, that’s an even bigger opportunity. Indeed, everything is an opportunity. Commit yourself to take those opportunities, to create good and useful value from them. Look at life right now, and again and again, and remind yourself, that’s an opportunity. Go for it. — Ralph Marston

Highest level Throw the worthless junk out of your mind. Now, put that mind to work, along with your body, your spirit, the whole of your self. Stop allowing the meaningless nonsense to dominate your awareness. Disconnect from it, and do all the good, useful things you are able to do. There’s no shortage of foolishness in this world but it doesn’t have to slow you down. Leave it all alone and focus your existence on positive purpose, on love, compassion, and excellence. Engage yourself fully in life and connect richly with all who live it. You can do so without being dragged down into the pettiness and absurdity. Remind yourself how precious your own life is, and how precious every other life is. Let your respect and desire for the highest possibilities drive your every thought, word, and action. With utmost kindness and understanding, refuse to accept any less than the best from yourself and from others. Live at your highest level, and bring the whole world along with you. — Ralph Marston

A life worth living well Think of all the time and effort you’ve put into your own life and into the lives of those around you. Think of all the time and effort invested by others in your life. You cannot possibly pay all that back, and you’re not expected to. What you can do is remind yourself every day how fortunate you are. What you can do is commit yourself with every thought and action to make the best use of that good fortune. What you can do is fulfill those hopes, going back generations, for a life well lived. Right now you have the opportunity to deploy your good fortune in a positive direction. Right now you can live with a higher sense of purpose than ever before. You can engage your discipline, skill, compassion, and creativity in ways that bring new goodness into being. You can raise your expectations and then do the work to exceed those expectations. Whatever else you may or may not have, you have a life that’s very much worth living very well. Choose right now, and do everything in your power to make that happen. — Ralph Marston

Live the beauty Every day is a miracle. Every life is a thing of wonder. The pleasures and joys lift you up. The challenges and adversities lift you even higher. Realize the extreme value of what you have. Keep in mind that love is always your best choice. Feel your strength, your resilience, your capacity for kindness and understanding. Constantly make good use of all you have, of all you are, to fulfill the promise of the best life can be. Embrace each moment with purpose and with passion for all the good you can do. Let go of any petty judgments that might blind you to the massive possibilities in which you’re immersed. Live the beauty that is always available for you to create. And share it relentlessly with all of life. — Ralph Marston

Powerful space You live always in a powerful space. It is the space between what happens and what you do about it. It is the space between how you feel and the way you act. In that space, your choice makes all the difference in the world. You have no real power over what others think or say or feel or do. You have full power over what their words and actions and ideas mean to you. If you depend on some particular outcome for your happiness and satisfaction, you’re sure to be disappointed. Yet in the space where your choice resides, the highest level of fulfillment is always available to you. Whatever happens is merely whatever happens. What you make of it within yourself is what makes all the difference. Activate and utilize that power, every time. Your choice is everything, so choose well. — Ralph Marston

Add to it Be thankful for your most recent achievement. But don’t let yourself become too impressed with it. Celebrate the victories, enjoy the good times, but don’t let the celebrations dominate your life. You have much more good work to be done. Find great joy in each moment without allowing that joy to become a permanent refuge. Instead, let it be an inspiration, a challenge, to create new goodness. The more progress you make, the bigger is your temptation to grow complacent. Don’t give in to that temptation. Remind yourself that the advances you’ve made have created opportunities to do even more. The good work you’ve done is calling upon you to add to it. You’re at your best when you’re making a difference. With gratitude, with joy, with positive purpose, keep up the good work. — Ralph Marston

Imagination and reality Imagination is nothing, and it is everything. Imagination abandons reality in order to create an even more meaningful reality. Imagination has no necessary basis in reason or physical substance. Yet your imagination is an accurate and inspiring picture of exactly who you are. You negotiate constantly between imagination and reality. Merge them together, respecting the essence of each, and you create value, achievement, fulfilling experience. It is a risky undertaking, for the harshness of reality can eviscerate imagination, and unchecked imagination can reduce reality to rubble. Yet where there is great risk there is also potential for great rewards. You are uniquely positioned to envision those rewards and then forge them into existence. Imagine what can be, combined with disciplined observation of what is, and do the work to make it happen. Reality is overwhelming, and your imagination is limitless. Bring them together to create richness and fulfillment. — Ralph Marston
