R is for Risk. We often have to take a risk in recovery. We need to take that next step forward. In order to grow and change, we have to become willing to do whatever it takes to maintain my sobriety.

R is for Reason. We have no reason to ever pick up again, although we may find lots of excuses. A grateful alcoholic/addict will never have a reason to pick up. Substitution doesn't work, because your drug of choice becomes more again.

R is for Rude. There is no excuse for being rude. Pack up those manners that you were taught and take them along with you when you leave home. We can't know what we have never been taught, so manners are please, thank you, excuse me, can I help you with that, and many more....

R is for Relax. Take some deep breathes and do something you like to do. Something you haven't done for a while. Be in the moment and enjoy. if you feel some obsessive/compulsive feelings, turn them over to your Higher Power and ask for them to be taken away.

R is for Release. Release let go. Let go and let God. You can't release something if you don't give it permission to leave.

R is for 'Reach out.' Reach out to someone else. It will help them and yourself too. The best way to get out of self is to help someone else.

R is for Rely on your Higher Power. When you are going through change, take your Higher Power with you. As one of the meditations said, 'The impossible becomes possible.'

The butterfly goes through change and is a good metaphor for us. We come crawling into the rooms and we are reformed into a beautiful butterfly.

R is for Reap. In the Bible it says that we reap what we sow. In recovery, they say we only get out of it what we put into it. Hope you planted a lot of seed this spring. Hope you planted them with lots of love.
