Default Time For Rest

Daily Word from Pastor Graham

“Six days you shall work, but on the seventh day you shall rest. In plowing time and in harvest you shall rest.” Exodus 34:21

Vance Havner, an old preacher of last century, was once writing on the need for rest in the Christian life. He wrote in one of his books, “We need to come apart and rest awhile, and if we don't come apart, we will come apart, we'll go to pieces!”

If we don’t come apart ourselves and rest awhile, we’ll go to pieces. I can’t tell you how many people I’ve met who are in the corporate world, stay-at-home-moms, leaders in ministry, and from many other walks of life who’ve simply burned out. And all of the weariness and hardship they’ve faced could’ve easily been prevented by inserting pauses in the rhythm of their lives.

When we think about rest, it’s helpful to think of it in terms of music. Even in fast-paced music, we have moments of rest, a pause that gives the music a moment for reflection. It’s not just the notes that are played, but the notes that aren’t played that make a song.

And in the song of our lives, our daily activities of working and responsibilities, we must also insert periods of rest. We do this by breaking away, coming apart, and setting aside time to rejuvenate and replenish our spirits. In the song of life, write in some time to rest and you’ll stay fresh and in rhythm!

IN THE RHYTHM OF YOUR LIFE, INSERT PAUSES TO REJUVINATE AND REPLENISH YOUR SPIRIT.

We stay sober and clean together - one day at a time!
