PUT ON A NEW NATURE

People sometimes do things we don’t understand. They say things that are hurtful. They do things that don’t make sense. Their actions and words appear to us like they just aren’t thinking or they just don’t care. No matter what we do we can’t change the actions and words of others; however, we can change how we respond to them. We can change how we act and what we say around them. We are accountable for what we do – not what they do. And God will discipline us, when needed, because we are His children. Despite what others do, we are to be holy.

Hebrews 12:10 “For our earthly fathers disciplined us for a few years, doing the best they knew how. But God’s discipline is always good for us, so that we might share in his holiness.” (NLT)

Dear Lord, the wrong actions or words of others does not give us a right to do wrong. We know people do things we don’t understand but we also know You will take care of them just as You take care of us. Remind us daily we only need to be concerned with our actions. We need to focus on doing Your will rather than getting caught up in the wrong activities of others. Remind us to continue to pray for them and love them rather than try to change them which may push them away. Help us to focus on changing ourselves and put on a new nature of being truly righteous and holy. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

God disciplines those who do wrong so we don’t have to worry about what to do about them.

We can lead by example in our own actions and words.

We don’t need to dwell on the wrong activities of others. We simply need to love them and pray for them.

When we change our hearts and minds to be holy, we will soon be more focused on God and less on the things of the world.

When we realize we are created to be like God – truly righteous and holy – we will know the change we need to make in our lives.

Ephesians 4:24 “Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.” (NLT)

Focus: We are created to be holy and are disciplined so we can continue to live a holy life.
