Tongue Control
Read 2 Samuel 1:1 through 3:39
“Your blood be on your own head. Your own mouth testified against you” (2 Samuel 1:16).
If ever someone put his foot in his mouth with tragic results, it was the young Amalekite who told David that he had killed Saul. The young man actually signed his own death warrant by telling David what he had done.
Words have power and can affect the course of one’s destiny. Ill-used, as in the case of the Amalekite, they can even result in one’s physical death.
Do you, like the Amalekite, have a big mouth? If so, you’ve probably already gotten into trouble because of it—maybe even serious trouble. If you’re reading this, you’re not dead yet. So there’s still hope for you.
Scripture says that no man can tame the tongue (James 3:8). Only God can tame your tongue. Instead of trying to keep your mouth shut, focus on Jesus and let Him speak through you. What you give your attention to will grow. Stop giving your attention to a wayward tongue. Instead, give your attention to Jesus Christ, the Lord of your tongue.
Prayer Suggestion: Lord, I choose to allow Jesus Christ in me to speak through my mouth.
