God's Word For Today
Good, Godly Leadership
Read Joshua 1:1 through 3:17; Mark 14:22–42
Being a leader involves much more than assigning tasks and signing paychecks. A good leader takes seriously the job of developing the strengths of those being led in order to give them the needed tools to finish their tasks and to set them up for success. Sometimes this is easy, but it often involves making hard decisions. It takes courage and strength to stand up under pressure. A leader needs to truly care about people and have a strong vision of the finish line. God taught this to Joshua when He assigned him to lead the Israelites into their inheritance.
“Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them” (Joshua 1:6).
God knew Joshua was the person for the job. He knew that Joshua loved the people, and that Joshua trusted and obeyed God. He knew Joshua would fight for his people, when necessary and that he would bravely lead them if they started to wander or weaken. He’s a great example for modern leaders to follow.
Prayer for Today: Lord, help me to lead those in my care with sacrifice, strength, courage, and deep love.
