God's Word For Today
Rocks and Hard Places
Read Exodus 12:21 through 14:31; Matthew 15:21–39
Most people have been between a rock and a hard place—a place where it seems that there is no possible decision that will lead to a favorable outcome. That may describe how the Israelites felt about their situation as they stood between the Red Sea and an advancing Egyptian army.
As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up, and there were the Egyptians, marching after them. They were terrified and cried out to the Lord (Exodus 14:10).
As the leader of the Israelites, Moses was responsible for getting the people safely to the Promised Land. How could this be accomplished? Humanly speaking, it may have seemed impossible. However, Moses had faith in God and His protection. Moses told the Israelites not to be afraid because the Lord would deliver them.
When God’s people stand between a rock and a hard place and all hope seems to be gone, they can have the same assurance Moses did. God will see them through their problems and heartaches.
Thought for Today: God specializes in helping His people.
