Hi Regine, :17: Glad to have you join us here. When I first came online back in 1997 seeking help with my drinking, I came across an AA chatroom and first picked the nick name blukiti. I was blue and love kitties. After about a week visiting that chat I wasn't as blue anymore so change it to bluidkiti - blue eyed kitty. So glad to hear that the readings help you and others. I look forward to hearing more from you. Keep coming and sharing with us. Have a great day! :)

My name is Tara, I've been checking out the site for the past few months. I love the daily readings to start my day out in the right state of mind. I have 80 days sober today and have been very connected with AA since I came in at the beginning of October. I feel like a completely different person than who I was when I was drinking and using, and I can't wait to see what else is to come. :D

Welcome Tara, so glad you signed in to say hello. I hope you find what you need for your journey. Congratulations on 80 days. I know what you mean about AA. I walked into the rooms and wanted what they had.

There is material on the Steps and Traditions, when you feel you want to explore them more.
Have you round a sponsor yet. I got a temporary sponsor until I looked around and I wanted to know if the temporary sponsor I chose, walked her talk. I found someone who was more spiritual in my eyes, because I had grown up with religion, and I had to find the difference. I found that my spiritual beliefs enhanced my religious beliefs and my religious beliefs enhanced my spiritual beliefs. I was called a double winner. I qualified for that because I went to AA and NA and Al-Anon.
Hope your day was a good one.

Thank you much. Your messages today made me feel so cared about. I have been in 12 step programs for most of my life. Knowing program and program people are in the world, who care, who reach out, at a meeting somewhere all the time gives me comfort and inspiration. Today especially I was feeling alone and lonely. I am touched by the program and care I find here. I got to this site by looking for 12 step daily readings. Found that here and more.

Hello my name is Russell Dossie and I am from Akron Ohio and it is a pleasure to meet all of you. I look forward to my future interaction on this site and just for the record my sobriety date is April 26th 2017. If there's anyone else from the Akron Ohio area it would be nice to meet you so that maybe we can become members of each other support system and even if you are from outside of Akron social media the internet and phones help communication go along way I hope you all have a blessed day:)

Welcome Russel, so glad you made the decision to sign in and say hello. I was at Akron, Ohio many years ago for a wedding of my ex-husband's cousin. I didn't know about AA. I drank so much that I wasn't fit to help with the driving on the way home. My mother-in-law thought that it was a good thing, because I scared her on the way there when I was sober At least I think was, not sure how many pills I was taking back then. They are dried-up alcohol to my body.
I wish you well on your journey.

Hey all. Jonathan from Waxahachie Texas here. After trying to get sober for 3 years, found a sponsor finally who was able to get it through my thick skull that step 1 applies to me and suddenly everything clicked. In just a couple weeks God has wrought miracles for my life. I'm here now because of the great Readings thread which my sponsor and I read every morning. God bless, thanks, and hopefully see ya around...

Hello Everyone!
I just wanted to post a little about myself so I can maybe make some new friends and connections on here. Well my name is Amy, I'm 30 and live in New York. I just celebrated my one year clean from heroin and cocaine on May 1st..I quit drinking years ago, it was never my thing so I guess that's why I don't have a specific clean date from alcohol, I just know it's been years. I'm an LPN but currently I'm not working because I'm fortunate to have a hubby who really wants me to get a solid foundation in recovery..and I want to go back to school too. I am an extremely friendly and loving person, so I'd really love to meet people on here so we can help each other on this crazy beautiful road to recovery! May you all be blessed and have a kick ass day! :171:

Welcome Amy, hope you have a kick ass day too. Congratulations on your one year. As they say in the program, "Now the work begins."
You do sound cheerful, I haven't been up long enough to get to that state of mind. I just know it is not a bad day. The sun is shining.
We have a check in section, for members only, so I invite you to join us. We just share on our day, where we are at, and pass on anything enlightening to others.
Hope your dayis a good one.

I am new here and about to go to my first meeting after a five year hiatus. I am here to tell yo u it doesn't get better. Glad to be here and thanks.

Hi everyone...my name is John P...I live in Melrose, NY. Last month I celebrated 38 years of recovery.. It certainly has been a journey these past 38 years--progress, not perfection; a journey, not a destination; a process, not an event...one day at a time. I'd never trade my worst day sober, for my best day drunk. AA saved my life--physically, mentally, spiritually, emotionally and intellectually...I have a daily reprieve contingent on the maintenance of my spiritual condition.
I have included some of the documents I have composed...if interested.:)

I am Deb, an alcoholic. I attended my first AS meeting this past Thursday. I had realized that I hated, and I mean hated God and the fact my drinking put my fiance in jail for a parole violation. All because I had beer in therefrigerator. He gets out July 7th but they added the stipulation that we cannot have any contact with each other until he gets off parole November 17th!!! I knew I had to go to something so my therapist suggested AA. I really had to think about it. I made up my to do this!!

Welcome Deb, so glad you made the decision to join us. A daily dose of the day's meditation can start your day off on the right foot.
There is a lot of recovery material in the site. I hope you continue to come and share your journey with us.
We do have a private check in for members only.
It is okay to be angry with God, but it helps to go back later and ask for forgiveness. I found out He wasn't so bad after all. For the most part, it was my decisions that got me into the situation I was in.
In sobriety, you can do lots of thing, the only thing you can't do is pick up that first drink. As they say in recovery, 'one is too many and a thousand isn't enough.'

We do have a Check in section of the forum that allows you to share privately, just with members. A new Thread means a new topic or post whatever you call it. You can do a quick reply or click on reply if you want to format or post a picture to your thread. I look forward to sharing with you. if that is too confusing, just continue to click in here or share on the material posted on the site or start a new thread with a topic of your own that you want feed back on or just want other people's opinion..

Hello Everyone,
I am looking forward to having 24 hours a day access to recovery and encouraging messages.
I have never been to an AA meeting that did not help me in some way. Just walking into the rooms brings a feeling of peace.
My most beneficial meeting have been in the last two years working with "Drop the Rock". With the help of my HP I have been able to forgive and act in a loving manner in my life. I am VERY grateful for these meeting.

Hi I'm Alvin been sober now 27yrs as of 8/10/91.
My life has changed and changed for the better since I sobered up.
It just took over 5yrs in and out of AA to hit bottom get a sponsor that cared more for my life than my attitude and take me through the steps.
Tough love is what it took, that's what I grew up with and that's what I needed to get sober. I've since learned it doesn't cost anything to be kind. :11:

Hello all, Day 88. I'm roadsong from Illinois. 58, female. Married 29 years tomorrow. Mom to daughter who's 28 and lives in Colorado and Zoey, who's 13 and glued to my thigh, wanting a walk outside. Outpatient and toe dipper in AA 27 years ago, picked up 30 days then left. November 19, 2018 I admitted to myself I was powerless over alcohol. I didn't come to believe in a power greater than myself.....He came to me and showed me that He IS a power greater than me and will show me the way. Thankfully never going back as He has completely removed the need to guzzle alcohol. Thank you Tammy for hostessing.

Welcome to the newcomers. I haven't been here for a long time like one, but I know it is home.
Please keep coming so you don't have to come back. Please come and be a part of our journey.
I have been a member here for a long time...just not posted in a while. I know Joann and BW from another site.
I am in KY. I have been a member of alanon and acoa for about 28 or so years. I still attend alanon every week even tho right now we are doing it by zoom.
I stopped in today to see if anybody heard from Joann in the last few days. The last I heard she was supposed to go home from the hospital and I am not so sure she was medically ready.
Stay Safe!

Hi all. I'm Gherkinista, a grateful sober old alcoholic from Colorado, USA. This site was especially helpful for me to use each morning to start my day during the months of the pandemic, and I thank you all for being here. I am not a tech competent person, and have a slight cognitive disability so I tend to read more than I post, but I am extremely grateful for each person in the program, and feel that glorious cosmic connection to all fellow travelers on this remarkable twelve step journey. I believe no life could be more beautiful and meaningful than what we are offered through our 12 steps and fellowship.

Hideeho folks,
I'm Matt, an AA sober since 9/13/2017. My home group is in El Paso, TX.
As a matter of fact, next month I'll be chairing my home group's weekly, open AA meeting on Zoom, and I'm looking for folks that want to tell their stories.
Our format, like many others, starts with some readings, reminding folks of ground rules, then introductions before the meat of the meeting (see what I did there? lol). We like to have someone from outside our group join for a meeting, and tell an abbreviated (10 min or so) version of their AA story and relate it to a suggested topic for the rest of the shares. Who'd be interested in sharing their story with our military associated (but not exclusive) group here in El Paso Texas.
We do our meetings Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m. MST on Zoom.
Hope to hear from you soon!
Matt

Being of the rotary dial crowd as a kid growing up, using some websites has been a challenge. This one is new to me. Thus the easiest way to introduce myself is by a piece I wrote for our local recovery newsletter, it's called: 'A Saint Patrick’s Day To Remember' and goes like this:
"For over thirty-five years nearly daily drinking had not convinced me I had a problem with alcohol. Neither had two DUIs or the six-month separation from my soon-to-be [although I did not then know it] ex-wife in the summer of the past year. Although I had grudgingly started attending AA meetings in the winter, I clearly didn’t 'get it,' for I was hung over at every 7 a.m. meeting for months.
First, Christmas would be the day I stopped for good, then my eldest’s birthday, New Years Eve, then the first day of the new year, the anniversary of my father’s death, my birthday, and even Valentine’s Day was a target, but each target was missed. So on March 8th, when my deceased father’s birthday arrived and my ex said she had finally had enough, no looking back, she was filing for divorce forthwith, you would have thought that would have caused me to stop--you would have been wrong.
As I whined about my misfortune, hung over again, the next day at 7 a.m., something different happened. While sympathy was offered by several, one guy just looked me in the eye and said: 'I can’t say enough about the not-drinking part of this program!'
I don’t know how it happened, because I didn’t stop that day or even the next, but I did find myself in my favorite bar on my favorite day, St. Patty’s Day, not long thereafter. I had my newest favorite drink, soda with a splash of OJ, not once but twice and was heading back to the house, no longer my “home”, when it hit me.
I realized that for the first time in as long as I could remember, not only had I not had a drink yet that day, I had not even thought about having a drink that day, I had not even wanted a drink that day. I began to cry. . . . just as I am now as I remember the instant of that moment after many intervening sober days.
At my 7 a.m. meeting the next morning I reported in (for the first time over the previous two weeks I had actually been telling the truth about being a newcomer, I had lied about it for the first three months), that I hadn’t had a drink the day before. My 'mentor,' a lovely woman with sixteen years at the time who was to die of cancer, sober, before her seventeenth birthday, gave me a Big Hug and said that St. Patrick’s Day was a great sobriety birthday, so I had to be sure not to drink in the day ahead.
Not realizing how I was tempting fate, and being a creature of habit, I returned that day again to my favorite watering hole. Again it was soda with a splash of OJ, then on to the house from which I was soon to be 'kicked out' by the court. While driving home that next day, I was again struck by the fact that I had not thought of or wanted a drink that day, two consecutive days, that was a World Record or at least a Personal Best.
Not long thereafter I got a sponsor and starting working the steps. The family broke up, the divorce happened, the three children were alienated and did not want to be with their dad, the job got worse and my world seemed to implode around me, but I didn’t drink.
And time began to pass for me, as it does for all of us, in the wonderful way time passes in my 12 Step program, One Day At A Time.
As the days without drinking slowly turned into months and then years without drinking, marvelous things began to happen to me. The children started to want to be with their dad again, not in the same way or all at once, but to be with him none the less. A new relationship with a woman in AA, herself with double-digit sobriety blossomed into my life. Other problems persisted or resolved, but I had found a way to get through them without drinking, at least for that day.
Too many St. Patrick’s Days past were forgotten due to blackouts or the manner in which I had comported myself during them, but the one which appears on my license plate, 3 17 05, daily recalls to me A St. Patrick’s Day To Remember."
That's my story and I am sticking to it.
I am John W. and I am an alcoholic.
