Hi Andrew,
Welcome to our community. I am sorry about your friend. Also sorry about the negative experience you had at the meeting.
I have never had that experience myself as no matter where I've been I always felt at home in an AA meeting.
Please continue to look for meetings where you feel welcomed.
Glad you are here!

NO MORE MEETING IN IRELAND,RECOVERY IS TRUTH,UNITY IN AA IS NOT TRUTH.In 2006 in NEWBRIDGE I looking for job,no money from AA.No one helped me.After 6 month I change town in Ireland. In Newbridge I could feel discrimination and intolerance.I helped people who had an alcohol problem. Why I come to Ireland?I wanted to change in my life.Life in Newbridge almost kill me.After 12 years,am sober. From 2 years ireland offers socjal welfare and pushing me into a corner.I'm still discriminated against.Refused me the right FOR THE DISIBILITY ALLOWANCE.I DONT HAVE IN THIS COUNTRY ANY RIGHTS

Welcome Dawid, thanks for sharing. That was then, this is now in 2014. Are you willing to quit or are you going to blame someone else for your continued drinking or are you clean and sober.
I too slept on the floor, when I moved into my first apartment and only had a two burner stove, which I kept blowing the fuses and had no power in my place until I could contact my landlord. Life can be tough. I went through issues with my own group, envy, gossip, and bleeding deacons.
It is my experience that AA supports you in what you want to do, they don't do it for you. People have come through the longer I stayed sober and saw that I was willing to work the program. The people aren't AA, they have the disease of alcoholism and need to be there as much as you. It isn't about their disease and actions, it is about you and what you need to do for your own recovery.
I haven't been too many meeting outside of my city, but when I did go, the meetings were awesome, I went to AA and NA.
My life was hell, it can still be hell if it is managed by me. As it says in Step One, I am powerless of alcohol-that our lives had become unmanageable. I am powerless over people, places, and things.
People can't do it for you, it is something we have to do for ourselves. They will be there to guide you and make suggestions as a result of their own experience, strength, and hope. I hope you find a meeting that is good for you.
When you get a resentment, you are suppose to pray for those people, and wish for them, everything that you wish for yourself.
Let go, let your God, and walk in peace.
There is a lot of recovery material here, I hope you will continue to come and peruse the board to see if there is anything that can help you on your road to recovery.

I'm sorry you experienced this. Is there any way you can get back home to Poland?
I'll pray for you that you stay sober and that things will work out, that you can trust God and find support.

There is a God. The people aren't God. The people don't make up God unless they are filled with the Spirit of Love and Freedom.
Don't blame God for the wars of Ireland. Most people are at war with themselves and choose to take it out on others. We are responsible for our own happiness.
Hugs, not drugs.
