BAD TREATMENT
When we receive bad customer service at a store, restaurant or on the phone, we tend to get upset. We get defensive and wonder who they think they are being rude. We decide to stop visiting there or doing business with them and we tell all our friends about our bad treatment. Also, when wrong things are said about us personally, we tend to dwell on it by talking about it and continuing to think about it. However, God tells us to appeal gently, avoid quarreling and show humility to everyone – not just those who are kind to us. It may not change how they treat us but we can know we are doing what God has called us to do.
1 Corinthians 4:13 “We appeal gently when evil things are said about us. Yet we are treated like the world’s garbage, like everybody’s trash—right up to the present moment.” (NLT)
Dear Lord, we know there are people in the world who treat us wrong. We know there are people who talk bad about us, don’t care about us and even want to do us harm. Help us to have the sweet spirit You have called us to have. Help us to appeal gently, not slander anyone and avoid quarreling. We can only be obedient to You in these areas when we submit ourselves to You. And, today, Lord, we do. We submit ourselves to You to guide us to be obedient and live as You have called us to live with a gentle and humble heart. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
When others lash out at us, we are to avoid quarreling with them.
When people treat us wrong, we are to turn the other cheek.
When we feel offended by someone, we aren’t to talk about it with others but work it out with the person who was unkind.
God tells us to love, be gentle, and be humble to all people – despite how they treat us.
When we react negatively to those who want to hurt us, we aren’t setting the example Jesus taught us to set.
Titus 3:2 “They must not slander anyone and must avoid quarreling. Instead, they should be gentle and show true humility to everyone.” (NLT)
Focus today: Keep silent until you have something good to say about how you have been treated by another person.
