The Big C
Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you?
2 Corinthians 13:5
Early in Mother's illness, Barbara Wright, a new friend of mine, came to meet her. "What a pleasure to meet you, Mrs. Grogan," Barbara said, giving Mother an impromptu hug.
Mother beamed. "I'm really just fine. Of course, I have this . . . little c. It's just a tiny thing. It's not the Big C!"
Barbara got very close to Mother and said in a hushed voice, "Oh, but you do have the Big C. I can see that you do!" Barbara looked ecstatic.
Mother leaned forward, waiting for an explanation. "You have Jesus Christ—He's the Big C. He's so much bigger than that ‘little c' you have." They both beamed with delight.
Mother adored the idea. She told her doctors about "the Big C and the little c." She explained it to strangers in doctors' waiting rooms. She told her friends in the beauty shop. She never tired of sharing that wonderful truth.
