LACK OF SLEEP

Ever not got enough rest? Either from a sick child, or staying up late or just not sleeping well? Lack of sleep affects our focus. When we don’t allow our body to completely rest, we will feel it during the day. When we get little sleep, we aren’t able to think as clearly as we could. When we lack sleep, we aren’t able to focus. Our bodies begin to tell us to rest. There are many things we can do to sleep better. Just google it. However, God gives us a perfect rest when we turn our lives over to Him. His rest is like no other. His rest will help us focus on what is good, what is right and what is His perfect will for us.

Ecclesiastes 5:3 “Too much activity gives you restless dreams; too many words make you a fool.” (NLT)

Dear Lord, help us to learn to rest. Help us to get the rest we need each night so we are refreshed and ready for a new day. We know we can’t cram too much into a day. That just leaves us flustered and bothered and distracted from doing Your will. Help us to do what is important to only You today and take time to rest during the day and get our rest tonight we need for another day serving You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

When we don’t get the sleep we need, our bodies will slow us down. That is God’s reminder to get some rest.

Taking time to get the rest we need at night will give us the strength we need during the day to do God’s will.

Part of God’s plan for us is to work; however, part of God’s plan for us is to rest as well.

When we are too busy to rest, we are going to eventually get tired and aggravated.

God will give us rest when we lie down at night and put our focus on Him.

Psalm 4:8 “In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, O LORD, will keep me safe.” (NLT)

Focus: Decide to finish up the day in time to get a good night’s rest for tomorrow.

In early recovery, I was told that lack of sleep never killed anyone. My doctor use to say a nap when tired, does more good than 8 hours sleep at night. I had to recognize my metabolism changes and I had to accept, not fight sleep like every thing else in my life. The harder you try to make it happen, the longer it takes to find the sleep you need. This especially so, if we are using our bed to hide from what is happening in our life. I know, that was when I started to pop a pill and if that didn't work, then I took another or found something else to substitute.
