GROWING ROOTS

In order to grow roots, we have to start from a seed. Springtime is usually when we plant seeds to make things grow. The activity begins underground before we see anything happen on the outside. Then soon we see sprigs which begin to turn into what we planted. In order for us to grow in faith, we need to begin planting the seeds of God’s word into our hearts. We need to build our lives on His word and we will begin to see the person He has created us to be.

Colossians 2:7 “Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.” (NLT)

Dear Lord, help us to focus on You today and begin to plant seeds in our lives for right living. Help us with the decisions we make today. Help us with the love and concern we show for others. Help us have the desire to stay focused on You and make the choices You want us to make. We want to live for You today, Lord, and we give ourselves to You. Please help us to grow deeply in Your word and begin making roots that will keep us strong and focused on You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

When we focus on God’s word, we will see His desire for our lives.

God wants us to read His word and grow stronger in Him. That requires focus on Him every day.

If we want to be strong in God’s word, we have to read it and meditate on it every day.

When we plant God’s word into our minds and hearts, we will see our faith grow.

When we accept Christ as our Savior, He will live in us and our roots will grow down into God’s love and we will be strong.

Ephesians 3:17 “Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.” (NLT)

Focus today: Before we can plant God’s word into our hearts, we have to decide to die to the world’s desires and only desire what God wants us to do.

1 Corinthians 15:36 “When you put a seed into the ground, it doesn’t grow into a plant unless it dies first.” (NLT)

My thought was that I needed to plant the seed in good soil on top of a good foundation. As it says, "Don't let plant a seed in fallow ground."

Like everything else, we need to till, water, feed, pull out weeds and keep that soil healthy.

The one thing I can tell you about my resistance to change is that it feels like surrendering to a lack of control. It’s very similar to letting go in many ways, which I feel goes hand in hand with a resistance to change.
