WHEN OTHERS LAUGH

No one likes to be made fun of. No one wants to be laughed at or ridiculed. Yet it happens. Sometimes we poke fun at others meaning no harm but they take it the wrong way and are hurt. Sometimes others make fun of us and gang up on us and we begin to feel bad about ourselves and angry at them. When others laugh at us it is not a time to feel sorry for ourselves but a time to trust in God to show us what to do. That requires taking the focus off of us and putting it on Him. When we do that, He will show us what to do.

Romans 12:14 “Bless those who persecute you. Don’t curse them; pray that God will bless them.” (NLT)

Dear Lord, we know there will be times when others laugh at us. We know there will be times when it feels like people just want to put us down and make us feel worthless. But we know we are not worthless. We know we can be strong when we put our trust in You. When we decide to focus on You rather than the hurting remarks of others, we can get past the painful words and actions and determine what You want us to do that will glorify Your name. Thank You, Lord, for all You do. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

God wants us to pray for those who want to hurt us.

When others hate or exclude us, we are to pray and patiently wait on God to show us what to do.

It isn’t easy but God can help us keep calm when others lash out at us.

People may be poking fun at us just for a laugh, but sometimes it hurts. When we are hurt, God can help.

The best thing to do when others do wrong to us is to remember to do right and know God will bless us for it.

Luke 6:22 “What blessings await you when people hate you and exclude you and mock you and curse you as evil because you follow the Son of Man.” (NLT)

Psalm 133:1 “How wonderful and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony!” (NLT)

Focus today: Remember others may be hurting when they lash out at us. So we should ask God to help us to say and do the right thing that will glorify His name.

When others laughed, I always took it on and figured they were laughing at me. Often it wasn't with me, sometimes it was with me; other times, they didn't even see me, because they were so caught up in self. When I take things personal, I set myself up for hurt. If they are hurtful, it is their stuff not mine, and I am glad that in today, I don't have to go there.

I figure that sometimes, they don't even know they are hurtful or they are pushing our buttons to see how we react. Sometimes life can be hurtful and painful, that is why we have the program and the tools to deal with life on life's terms. It is healing, comforting, and quiets our minds and emotions, because through our God, all things are possible.

When I went into a laughing roomful of recovery people, I figured they were all drunks and high on drugs. What I didn't know was they were recovering alcoholics and drug addict, who were enjoying sobriety. A recovery room full of recovery people will embrace you. A room full of addict and alcoholics, will pull you into their space to use you.
