Psalm 121:3 'He will not let your foot slip - He Who watches over you will not slumber.'

Your ever-watching Heavenly Father has got you firmly in His grip. He will hold you and He will be your Helper.

My help comes from the LORD

SCRIPTURE READING: Psalm 121:1-8 (https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm%20121%2CPsalm%201-8&version=NIV)

I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come?
My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.

He will not allow your foot to slip; your Protector will not slumber.
Behold, the Protector of Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

The LORD is your Keeper; the LORD is the shade on your right hand.
The sun will not strike you by day, nor the moon by night.

The LORD will guard you from all evil; He will preserve your soul.
The LORD will watch over your coming and going, both now and forevermore.

1. IT IS TIME TO LIFT UP OUR EYES

Sometimes when we have been through a season or a time of issues and struggles it can leave us feeling discouraged and tired.
The picture of someone whose head is hanging down reflects such a state.
We all go through seasons like this at some stage in life and we can be left feeling bereft.
Perhaps your strength is gone, you are tired of the battle, and it seems like this time period has been going on for a long time.
But now is the time to lift up our heads and to lift up our eyes off the difficulties and challenges and to look to God for the next season and His help in a new future.
Psalm 121:1 'I lift up my eyes...'

2. YOUR HELP COMES FROM THE LORD

Ultimately the Lord is our only hope and the only One to Whom we can look for help and for the hope of a new future.
We don't look to the hills for our help or to any other idea we may have about where our help comes from.
We know where our help comes from and there is only one Source when it comes to the help that we need - THE LORD!
Don't look to other sources for your help, look to the Lord for the help you need.
Psalm 121:1-2 'From where does my help come? My help comes from the LORD!'

3. YOUR HELPER MADE THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH

Your Helper (The Lord) is very capable.
He can rescue, deliver and lift you up and out of the miry clay and put your feet on a rock.
If He made the heavens and the earth, then there is nothing you may need that He is unable to supply.
Nothing is too difficult for the Lord.
Keep putting one foot in front of the other and do the things that need to be done as they arise and the next thing you will know is that He has brought you through it all.
Psalm 121:2 'My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.'

4. THE ONE WHO HOLDS YOU IS NOT SLEEPING

Sometimes when we are going through a challenging season it sometimes seems like God is doing nothing.
He is NEVER doing nothing, He is always active in our lives.
Even if we feel like we are not making any progress or even going backwards, He is still there and He is still working in our lives and in our situation.
The Lord is not asleep when it comes to what He is doing in your life.
He will not allow things to overwhelm you and He will hold you up so that your foot does not slip and so that you will not fall.
Psalm 121:3-4 'He will not allow your foot to slip; your Protector will not slumber. Behold, the Protector of Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.'
In your mind's eye see a picture of Him holding you up so that you cannot slip or fall.

5. THE LORD IS YOUR KEEPER

How awesome it is to know that we have the Lord Who loves and cares for us.
The Bible tells us that He is our Keeper.
A keeper is more than just someone who is just there, it is someone who is interested and has our best interests at heart.
The Keeper that the Bible is speaking about is like a bodyguard who is watching over you to preserve you.
He is your Defender, and He will never abandon you or leave you unaided.
Psalm 121:5-6 'The LORD is your Keeper; the LORD is the shade on your right hand. The sun will not strike you by day, nor the moon by night.'
Day and night we can rely on His power to save and His mercies to rescue and protect us.
Don't fear the worst but keep believing for the best.
Believe that with His help things will work out and that trusting for the best outcome can be the best thing to do.

6. THE LORD WILL WATCH OVER YOU

I once heard a story about a farmer who experienced a fire on his farm. When the fire had done its damage he was walking around frustrated and angry. He noticed a clump of what he thought was burnt grass. He kicked it in frustration, and it was in fact the remains of a burnt dead hen. As he displaced the chicken, out from under her remains ran all her chicks. She had watched over them, paid with her life and now here they were, still alive. It was the beginning of a new start.
The Lord will watch over you.
He paid the price with the death of His Son on the cross so that we could hide under His protection and come out to a new life and a new opportunity for a fresh start.
No matter what you may think the future looks like, He is already there, and He will carry you each and every day.
He will watch over you.
Psalm 121:7-8 'The LORD will guard you from all evil; He will preserve your soul. The LORD will watch over your coming and going, both now and forevermore.'
He will guard you, He will preserve you and He will watch over you, right now, tomorrow and every day that lies ahead including throughout all eternity.
This must be one of the most reassuring things we could ever know.
It all starts as we lift up our eyes above the problems, focus on the One Who wants to help us and then throw ourselves into His eternal and unfailing arms.

May the LORD bless you and keep you; may the LORD cause His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; may the LORD lift up His countenance toward you and give you peace.
