Quote:
If we endeavor, like people of courage, to stand
in the battle, surely we should feel the favourable
assistance of God from heaven. For He who gives
us occasion to fight to the end that we may get the
victory, is ready to help those that fight mightily,
and trust in His grace. ~ Thomas a Kempis {adapted}

Isaiah 41:10
Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed;
for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will
help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand
of My righteousness.

Prayer:
Blessed Lord,
When I stand and fight in battles of life, I can rely on
You to provide the victory. Alone, I can do nothing but
when I rely on You, I am given the superhuman strength
and courage that enables me to overcome. Thank you
Jesus. Amen.

Quote:
We do God's work for our brothers and sisters when we learn to listen
to them. So often Christians...think that their only service is always to
have to "offer" something when they are together with other people.
They forget that listening can be a greater service than speaking.
~ Dietrich Bonhoeffer

2 Corinthians 13:14
May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and
the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

Prayer:
Father,
Make me more compassionate toward others. May I always be more
willing to listen and not so quick to offer advice. Healing comes more
quickly for those who are allowed to pour out their hearts and troubles.
Amen.

Hem your blessings with gratitude
Lest they unravel. {submitted by Rev. Nancy}

Psalm 69:30
I will praise the name of God with a song,
and will magnify Him with thanksgiving.

Prayer:
Father God,
Thank You for the many blessings that You
go generously bestow upon me. Yes, I may

more than balanced by my blessings. I will
hem my blessings with gratitude each day. Amen.

riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

My Lord,
I used to think that if I followed You I would have to leave behind so much.

Quote:
When you're in a pit, there is no gimmick, slogan, or
saying that will get you out --sometimes there's not
even another person who can help. Sometimes the
only thing you can do is go right back to God. ~ Chaplain Michael Clark

Psalm 103:2-5
Bless the LORD, O my soul,
and forget not all his benefits,
who forgives all your iniquity,
who heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit,
who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
who satisfies you with good
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.

Prayer:
My Lord,
Thank You for always being there for me. Other
people, places and things ultimately do fail. But
You are steadfast and full of grace. Thank You for
blessing me so. Amen.

Quote:
Giving God control of our lives is not a sign of weakness, but it is
the greatest show of strength we will ever make. Under the guidance
of God, we become conquerors in a world that tries hard to break us
down. ~ Chaplain Michael Clark

Romans 8:37-39 ESV
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him
who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels
nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor
height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to
separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus,
It is in surrendering that I become an overcomer. It is in giving all
control over to You that I become free, free indeed. Nothing can
separate me from the Love of God. Amen!

Quote:
God is not one who is far away, nor is he eager to punish
us for our failures. No, He is a Father who loves us more
than we could ask to be loved. God, the creator of the
universe, the one who made all things out of nothing, loves
us. He wants to care for us, share His divine life with us,
and bring us to a perfect union with Him for all eternity.
We know with our mind that God loves us, but we must
also be convinced in our hearts so that we can respond
to His great love. ~ D. Rosage

I Peter 4:10
As every man hath received the gift, even so minister
the same one to another, as good stewards of the
manifold grace of God.

Prayer:
O God,
Convince me in the depths of my heart so that I can
respond to Your great love. Amen.

your mind. You can change who you are and what you are by changing
what goes into your mind. ~ Zig Ziglar

2 Cor 5:17
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things
passed away; behold, new things have come.

Prayer:
Dear God,
Help me to read, see and comprehend things that are godly and will
nurture my spirit. May I reject all that is ungodly. In the name of Jesus
I pray. Amen.

No one got anywhere without taking the first step.

Luke 9:23

himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever
would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my
sake will save it.

Prayer:
My Savior,
Changes need to be made in my life. You show me the path to
righteousness. Help me today as I take the first steps onto that
new road. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.

Quote:
The person without self-control is easy prey to the invader. He yields
himself to the first assault of his ungoverned passions, offering no
resistance... Having no discipline over himself, temptation becomes the
occasion of sin, and hurries him on to fearful lengths that he had not
contemplated. ~ Charles Bridges

Psalm 119:9-11
How can a young man keep his way pure?
By guarding it according to your word.
With my whole heart I seek you;
let me not wander from your commandments!
I have stored up your word in my heart,
that I might not sin against you.

Prayer:
Dear Father,
I look to You to provide me with the strength for proper self-control.
Help me to recognize temptation for what it is and edify me that I stand
strong. I am a new creation in Jesus Christ, behold the old has passed
away. Amen.

Quote:
Like the butterfly transforming into a caterpillar, it’s the
struggle that gives you the strength to live a life of
character that God wants. And that character is what
produces the hope that you have. ~ Chaplain Michael Clark

2 Corinthians 12:9-10
My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made
perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather
glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest
upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in
reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses
for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

Prayer:
O God,
When I am struggling, remind me of the caterpillar being
transformed into a butterfly. Yes, there is unbearable pain
but the end result is regeneration into someone who is
beautiful and more Christ-like. Amen.

Quote:
Repentance is the biblical, correct response to guilt.
The moment we committed our life to Christ, our
sins-past, present, and future-were forgiven. God's
righteousness was satisfied. But now we must
maintain fellowship with, dependence on, and
obedience to God. This necessitates confessing
our sins to our Lord as we become aware of them.~ Luis Palau

Deuteronomy 4:30-31
When thou art in tribulation, and all these things are
come upon thee, even in the latter days, if thou turn
to the LORD thy God, and shalt be obedient unto His
voice; For the LORD thy God is a merciful God; He will
not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the
covenant of thy fathers which He sware unto them.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
Lead me to repentance that comes from deep within
my heart. I will trust, obey and depend upon You for
cleansing of my sins, total removal of them and full
restoration. Thank you Lord. Amen.

Quote:
We need God's overcoming power within us to equal the
pressure being applied upon us from outside forces. We
can't rely upon yesterday's experience with God or we will
collapse. God's plan isn't always to remove outside
pressures, but rather to fill us with his overcoming power
and strength. ~ Chaplain Michael Clark

Isaiah 41:10
Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed;
for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will
help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand
of My righteousness.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
Sustain me each and every day according to my needs.
I can trust that Your provision is just enough for the rigors
of this day. Thank you for always caring for me. In the name
of Jesus I pray. Amen.

Give us, O Lord, steadfast hearts
that cannot be dragged down by false loves;
give us courageous hearts
that cannot be worn down by trouble;
give us righteous hearts
that cannot be sidetracked by unholy or unworthy goals.
Give to us also, our Lord and God, understanding to know You,
wisdom to recognize You,
and a faithfulness that will bring us to see You face to face. Amen. ~ Thomas a Kempis

Psalm 112:7
His heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD.

Prayer:
O God, I used to believe that surrendering to Your will would limit
my freedom. But now I see that my own will held me in
bondage. You have set me free.....free indeed! Amen.

For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world,
and forfeit his soul? For what shall a man give in
exchange for his soul?

Quote:
There are two kinds of people:

~ C.S. Lewis

Matthew 6:10 ESV
Your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.

Prayer:
O God,
Forgive me for the many times I have said, "OK,
Have it Your way!" My pride stood between You
and I. You are omniscient and omnipotent. You
always know what is best. Help me to gladly say

Quote:
We have to be so one with God that we do not continually
need to ask for guidance. Sanctification means that we are
made the children of God, and the natural life of a child is
obedience... ~ Oswald Chambers, My Utmost for His Highest

Genesis 24:27 AMP
As for me, going on the way [of obedience and faith] the Lord led me...

Prayer:
Lord,
Help me to always be one with You. I want to be walking

Quote:
You can often help others more by correcting your own faults than theirs.
Remember, and you should, because of your own experience, that
allowing God to correct your faults is not easy. Be patient with people,
wait for God to work with them as He wills. ~ Francois Fenelon

Matthew 7:3-5 ESV
Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not
notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your
brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when there is the
log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your
own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your
brother's eye.

Prayer:
Dear Father,
Help me to be patient with others as they work to change their lives.
Make me an eager and loving listener as I encourage them to recover.
Enable me to sweep my side of the street so that I may be a shining light
to others who are trying to find their way. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

Quote:
It's more important to have something to live for, than plenty to live on.

2 Corinthians 5:15 NASB
And He died for all, so that they who live might no longer live for
themselves, but for Him who died and rose again on their behalf.

Prayer:
My Lord Jesus,
I have been crucified with You; and it is no longer I who live, but
You Who lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live
by faith in You - the Son of God - who loved me and gave Yourself

Quote:
Remember, that to receive the word in the ear is one thing, and to receive
Jesus into your very soul is quite another; superficial feeling is often joined
to inward hardness of heart, and a lively impression of the word is not
always a lasting one. ~ Charles H. Spurgeon {adapted}

Luke 8:13-15
"Those on the rocky soil are those who, when they hear, receive the
word with joy; and these have no firm root; they believe for a while,
and in time of temptation fall away. The seed which fell among the
thorns, these are the ones who have heard, and as they go on their
way they are choked with worries and riches and pleasures of this
life, and bring no fruit to maturity. But the seed in the good soil,
these are the ones who have heard the word in an honest and good
heart, and hold it fast, and bear fruit with perseverance."

Prayer:
O Lord,
Make the soil of my soul fertile and willing to accept the seed of Your
Word that it may not just grow and blossom but flourish. Help me to
hear Your Word with an honest and good heart, holding it fast, that
I bear much fruit with perseverance. Amen.

Quote:
The meek man is not a human mouse afflicted with a sense of
his own inferiority. Rather he may be in his moral life as bold as
a lion and as strong as Samson; but he has stopped being fooled
about himself. He has accepted God's estimate of his own life. He
knows he is as weak and helpless as God declared him to be, but
paradoxically, he knows at the same time that he is in the sight of
God of more importance than angels. In himself, nothing; in God,
everything. That is his motto. ~ A. W. Tozer

Isaiah 29:19 ESV

Quote:
The true Christian reaction to suffering and sorrow is not the attitude
of self-pity, fatalism or resentment; it is the spirit which takes life's
difficulties as a God given opportunity, and regards its troubles as a
sacred trust, and wears the thorns as a crown. ~ James Stewart

Psalm 69:29
But I am poor and sorrowful:
let thy salvation, O God, set me up on high.

Prayer:
My Lord,
Self-pity only acts to keep me low and builds resentment. May Your
Holy Spirit lead me to see life's difficulties as God given opportunities,
as a sacred trust that I may be a victor in Jesus Christ. Amen.

James 1:12 NASB
Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been
approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised
to those who love Him.

Prayer:
Father,
Forgive me when I fall into self-pity because I have fallen short of
perfection. Lead me to persevere. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit that
I am renewed and soar as an eagle. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

Quote:
How do you respond when you experience suffering?
Do you pray to be delivered from it? Are you angry with
God because He doesn't appear to hear you or respond
to your pain? Do you pull away, distancing yourself from
Him because you feel rejected? Jesus responded with
"reverent submission" and because of it, "He was heard"
when He "offered up prayers and petitions...to the one who
could save Him." We, too, are heard when we cry out to God.
~ Julie Roe

Psalm 34:17
The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them;
He delivers them from all their troubles.

Prayer:
My Lord,
Forgive me when I try to isolate myself from You, suffering in silence.
Your Word reveals countless examples of believers crying out and You
lovingly responding to them. May I employ the gift of prayer as You mean
it to be used. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.
