"Let nothing be said about anyone unless it passes through these three sieves: !s it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?"— Amy Charmichael

Do I speak the truth about others? Yes, but do I speak the whole truth, and do I speak in kindness and out of necessity? No, not all the time. And I rarely ask others to stop when they are speaking ill of others. What is true, what is kind, what is necessary: this needs to be my standard. This needs to be every Christian's standard. If it sounds so easy, why is it so incredibly tough?

We can't always control what happens to us, but we can always control how we choose to respond. In those moments when I choose to stop complaining and instead give thanks to God for the good in my life, the parts that seem bad start to seem less significant. Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. "I am willing," he said. "Be clean!" And immediately the leprosy left him.

Then Jesus ordered him, "Don't tell anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them."

Yet the news about him spread all the more, so that crowds of people came to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses. But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.
__________________________

People were flocking to hear Jesus preach and to have their diseases healed, but Jesus made sure he often withdrew to quiet, solitary places to pray. Many things clamor for our attention, and we often run ourselves ragged attending to them. Like Jesus, however, we should take time to withdraw to a quiet and deserted place to pray. Strength comes from God, and we can only be strengthened by spending time with him.
