Freedom from, freedom to, this feels so incredible, once we begin our step work it's what we get from doing them, it's what the steps give us. Freedom from our illness, and the freedom to choose what we want to choose, not what our illness chooses. These go hand in hand, but we must first be freed from our illness. It begins in the same way for all of us and that is we have got to want it, and in a way we all wanted it none of us liked not being free, we just didn't know how to break free from the hold the illness had on us, it seemed impossible in our minds to do so. And so it is, we can't think our way out of this one. We had to have outside help. This help comes in the form of the steps, and ironically we find we had the power we needed all along to break free; we just didn't know it, or how to access it. The steps show us how, and they're guaranteed to always work if we do them all. I remember when I was suddenly overwhelmed with this incredible sense of freedom, that I could do whatever I wanted without me having to be drunk. It felt so good to feel this. It was because of this feeling I soon learned to love being sober, and all that comes along with the life of sobriety.
