LEARN FROM THE PAST
We have probably heard or read that we shouldn’t dwell on the past or live in the past but it is definitely okay to learn from the past. Although we could really learn a lot from our own past on how to live more for Christ, we can also learn from the people in the past who are in the Bible. The people in the Bible dealt with the same temptations we deal with today. Their lives are examples to us and warnings as well. We can definitely learn from their actions – both good and bad.
SCRIPTURE: 1 Corinthians 10:11 “These things happened to them as examples for us. They were written down to warn us who live at the end of the age.” (NLT)
ACTION STEPS:
1. List stories you remember in God’s word.
2. Write down lessons you can learn from them.
3. Dig deeper into God’s word and read more stories.
4. Ask God to reveal even more about how you can better live for Him.
PRAYER:
Dear Lord, there are so many good reasons to read Your word. You have just revealed another one to us. We can learn from the lessons of those in the past. We can seek out what they did and how they learned from their own mistakes. We can remember Your promises and Your love and Your forgiveness when we study about those who disobeyed yet You forgave them. We can see Your mercy and Your grace to those who strayed yet You took them back. Thank You for these lessons and show us how they apply to our lives. Teach us, today, Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
REMEMBER:
There are many lessons in God’s word to help us learn from others.
The people who lived long ago have stories and lessons we can learn that will apply to our own lives.
When we seek God’s word we will learn from those who made mistakes in the past.
When we learn from the mistakes of others in the past, we can possibly keep from making those same mistakes ourselves.
God wants us to study His word and learn from the past stories in His word.
FOCUS: Isaiah 42:23 “Who will hear these lessons from the past and see the ruin that awaits you in the future?” (NLT)
God’s lessons are ready for us to read, study and see what we need to change in our own lives.
