The bogeyman says to us we dare not look, what we might find, or already know about ourselves is so terrible. This is how the illness works in our thinking. This is the way it keeps us isolated, so we can not be saved from it. Part of recovery is we find out that we are no different from anyone else, have done no things any worse then somebody else has already done. Until we take our 4th step, and do a 5th step with someone, we won't be freed from this thinking we all have about ourselves when we come into recovery. It is from taking these actions we will become able to think differently about ourselves. There are lots of should and ought to's in the suggested program of recovery, but we have to do steps 4 & 5 so that we can get past the bogeyman that's keeping us from beginning our life of sobriety, there is no other way. We can't afford to keep him with us any longer. Boo !!
