OUR GUILT

Guilt is something we have when we have done wrong or think we have done wrong and are feeling bad about it. We may have done or said something that was harmful to another person. We may have stopped reading God’s word and feel guilty we aren’t in line with God’s will. We may have an addiction we can’t get rid of and feel guilty about our bad habits. Whatever the reason, guilt can control us by keeping us focused on us rather than on God and how He can help us. When we are feeling guilty, we need to pray.

SCRIPTURE:
Psalm 51:1-2 “Have mercy on me, O God, because of your unfailing love. Because of your great compassion, blot out the stain of my sins. Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. List things you feel guilty about.
2. Write down why you are feeling guilty.
3. Ask God to forgive you of these sins and feelings.
4. Know God is stronger than your feelings and trust in Him to help.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, thank You for Your mercy. Thank You for not punishing us when we do wrong but instead showing us unexpected kindness with Your love and forgiveness. Move us away from our guilt by cleansing us. We know when we turn from our sin and allow You to forgive us, we have nothing else to feel guilty about. Show us how we can better accept You and stop the guilt in our lives that keeps us from doing Your will. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
If we don’t feel like we have joy in life, we need to ask God to help us know what is keeping us from His joy.

Psalm 32:2 “Yes, what joy for those whose record the Lord has cleared of guilt, whose lives are lived in complete honesty!” (NLT)

God is greater than our feelings and can help us from feeling guilty when we focus on Him and trust in Him.

1 John 3:20 “Even if we feel guilty, God is greater than our feelings, and he knows everything.” (NLT)

FOCUS: Proverbs 14:10 “Fools make fun of guilt, but the godly acknowledge it and seek reconciliation.” (NLT)

God wants us to stop feeling guilty and seek forgiveness and reconciliation from Him.
