SO THEY WILL PASS IT ON
All of us have probably heard a rumor or gossip at some point in our lives. We hear things from others who even admit they don’t know if what they are sharing is actually true. We listen with intent in hopes we hear something that will shock us or relate to us or that we can even share ourselves. However, we need to be careful about the things we choose to listen to and the things we choose to share. If these things are not from God, we can’t always assume they are true. We are to share God’s truths with others so they can pass it on.
SCRIPTURE: 2 Timothy 2:2 “You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others.” (NLT)
PRAYER: Dear Lord, help us to turn from gossip and rumors so we aren’t focusing on this world but we are instead focusing on You. It is so easy to get wrapped up in things that are not true because of the excitement and feeling like we belong. But we don’t need to belong to this world. We need to belong to You. Help us today to look to Your truth, focus on Your word. Remind us to forget the gossip we have heard and share Your truths with others. We want to be teachers of truth. Help us today, Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
REMEMBER:
We are to be teachers of truth and not pay any attention to gossip.
It is easy to hear others gossip and want to join in but God tells us to stay away from gossip.
Leviticus 19:16a “Do not spread slanderous gossip among your people.” (NLT)
When we spread gossip instead of sharing God’s truth and promises, we are stirring up anger.
Proverbs 25:23 “As surely as a north wind brings rain, so a gossiping tongue causes anger!” (NLT)
FOCUS: Psalm 86:11 “Teach me your ways, O Lord, that I may live according to your truth!“ (NLT)
When we keep our focus on God and His word, we will want to live according to His truth.
