A is for Acceptance. I don't have to like it. I have to accept it for what it is knowing that it is subject to change. I have to acknowledge it in order to let go of it, no matter what 'it' is or was.

Acceptance is the key to recovery. Without it we stay stuck.

B is for Beautiful. Look around you, it is a beautiful day. The birds are singing, the sun is shining, children are laughing, and it is a beautiful day in the neighborhood.

We didn't see much of what was around us when we were using. So become aware of the Creator's many gifts and blessings.

C is for Choices. We are granted freedom of choice as long as we stay clean and sober. When we are using, our freedom is taken from us by our drug of choice.

G is for Gratitude. Every day I am grateful to be alive and sober. If you can not think of anything to be grateful for, just look around you. Start a Gratitude List all of things you are grateful for, big or small. I think you will be amazed at how many things to be grateful for in sobriety.

Keep coming back:

At around the 5 years of sobriety, I thought that I didn't need to go to meetings anymore. I got this....Ha Ha...I didn't have it. Slowly my mind started to try to convince me that I can drink again. Instead of grabbing a beer or a bottle of booze, I went back to AA meetings. I keep coming back to keep myself grounded. I come back for support and to give support to others as well.

P is for progress, not perfection. In Al-Anon they say aim toward perfection. I am sure that many have already hit the bull's eye, but they forget that we have a progressive disease, and it is waiting in the wings waiting to jump us when we miss that target and start beating on ourselves. I have to say, "Pardon my humanness, just for today I choose not to use or abuse anyone, including me."

M is for Moment. Live in the moment, be in the now. Enjoy every moment. Make the most of every moment. Don't spoil your today by living in the past or projecting into the future.

Many have complained about being bored during the time of this pandemic, but I still feel there are not enough hours in a day. I have since the day I came into recovery. I use to use to make time disappear. So grateful I don't have to do that any more.

N is for Never.

Never give up. Keep trying. President Abraham Lincoln tried for the Presidency 13 times. He persevered. Moses and God's people wandered in the desert for 40 years. Had they given up, I shrudder to think. The Wright Brothers tried to fly a plane and failed several times before they gained success. Life is full of failures that become successes by preserverence. Never give up. Keep the faith and walk the good walk.

Y is for You will only get back what you give out.

There is a system of balance and justice. This law says, if you treat others with respect, you will be treated with respect. If you gossip about no one, no one will gossip about you. If you are fair in all your dealings, you can expect the same. If you share with others, others will share with you. If you judge others, others will judge you.

You will always get back what you give out. The giving person will constantly be on the receiving end.

Let us be a giving person today and every day!

The ninth step promises tells us:

If we are painstaking about this phase of our development, we will be
amazed before we are half way through. We are going to know a new
freedom and a new happiness. We will not regret the past nor wish to
shut the door on it. We will comprehend the word serenity and we will
know peace. No matter how far down the scale we have gone, we will
see how our experience can benefit others. That feeling of uselessness
and self-pity will disappear. We will lose interest in selfish things and
gain interest in our fellows. Self-seeking will slip away. Our whole
attitude and outlook upon life will change. Fear of people and of
economic insecurity will leave us. We will intuitively know how to
handle situations which used to baffle us. We will suddenly realize that
God is doing for us what we could not do for ourselves.
Are these extravagant promises? We think not. They are being fulfilled
among us—sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly. They will always
materialize if we work for them.
