Knowing why

Why have you chosen to do what you do? Knowing why makes all the difference.

Know why, and you’ll figure out how. Know why, and you’ll find the motivation, enthusiasm, persistence, and strength to make it happen.

Just because everyone else desires to do, to have, to achieve something, is not enough. Be sure it’s truly important to you, and know why.

Give your actions the power of authentic purpose. Tap into a source of energy that grows stronger the more you use it.

Instead of frustration, you can experience joy. Instead of disappointment, you can know fulfillment.

It all comes from understanding why. Know why, and whatever you imagine is yours to create.

Make it your choice

Whether you have chosen this situation or not, proceed as though you have. Make the decision to choose it now, and to continue doing so.

No matter what the circumstance, feeling stuck will not improve your performance. Let it be your choice to be where you already are, and find power in that choice.

Whatever or whomever may be to blame, assume full responsibility. Put yourself in control by making yourself responsible for improving the situation.

It’s a waste of your time to speculate about how things could have been different. Invest your time taking action that will transform the situation in a positive way.

Your energy is best spent making progress, and not harboring resentment. Make it your choice to be here now, doing all you can to add beneficial value.

You are in this situation to make a difference. Put all your focus on identifying the best possibilities and bringing them to life.

Let go of need

Enjoy peace, richness, satisfaction. Let go of need.

The more thankful you are, the less you need. The more profoundly you enjoy every little thing, the less need you have for more.

Love all you love, desire all you desire, seek to grow and build and experience and give. Magnify the richness and fulfillment of it all by letting go of your need.

Do what you do, achieve what you achieve, learn what you learn because you love and respect and value it, not because you need it. Let go of need, and let life be the best it can be.

Honor your commitments, fulfill your obligations because you choose to, not because you need to. Be so highly inspired by your possibilities that you are never burdened by your needs.

Free yourself from need. Enable your life to soar.

Choose peace instead

When you feel frustration arising, choose peace instead. If anger starts to consume your awareness, choose peace instead.

When patience begins to wear thin, and you want to say or do something rash, choose peace instead. As worries and fears threaten to overtake you, choose peace instead.

Choose calm strength rather than frenzied anxiety. Choose peace.

Enable yourself to think clearly and to act with confidence. Choose peace.

You don’t have to be pulled in a dozen different directions by disruption and confusion. You can choose peace instead.

Stay connected to purpose, to truth, to goodness and positive intention. If anything starts to throw you off course, you can always choose peace instead.

Great life you deserve

Change the world today by changing the way you look at it. Improve your life today by improving what you think of it and what you do with it.

You have the power, right now, to inject new positive energy and enthusiasm into your world. Go ahead and activate that power.

It’s true that much of what happens in the world around you is out of your control. Yet you can absolutely control the factors that make the most difference to your experience of life.

It’s up to you to decide what you think, what you do, and how you feel. Take positive, purposeful control of those things, and you can make this day better than any day has ever been.

The perspective you live with is the perspective you have chosen. If you’ve somehow worked your way into a negative frame of mind, you have what’s necessary to quickly get yourself out of it and into a more positive place.

You are literally surrounded by a universe of possibilities. Now, align yourself with the highest and best of those possibilities, and live the great life you deserve to live.

New starting point

If you’re not careful, complacency can make everything you’ve gained crumble to the ground. Don’t let your success be victim of that same success.

Avoid complacency by responding to each success with gratitude, humility, and continuing effort. Treat success as an opportunity to create even more success.

If all you do with your good fortune is consume it, you’ll soon be left with nothing but regret. Instead, seize the opportunity to build upon your success.

The joy of accomplishment is in the doing. The way to continue that joy is to continue the doing.

Realize that the biggest reward of any success is the opportunity to aim for even more success. Feel the extent of that opportunity, and go to work on it.

Make every success into a new starting point. Delight in continuing to fill your world with new achievement and value.

Widespread influence

The work you do takes on a life of its own as it benefits the lives of others. Each positive effort you make continues to live and expand in influence.

After you have moved on to something else, what you do to make a difference keeps on making a difference. The song lives on in the hearts of those who hear it, long after the singer is finished.

Kindness you offer, gives birth to more kindness. The love you give, enables more and more love.

All of life is connected. Once your words are uttered, once your actions are taken, they begin spreading through the connections.

Life expands, amplifies, widens the impact of the way you choose to live. Choose goodness, truth, love, peace, and your influence lifts the world in ways you cannot imagine.

Visualize your actions cascading through the miles, through lives, over centuries. Make every choice worthy of the lasting, widespread influence it will have as it fans out through all of life.

On this very day

Right now is your only opportunity to live this one-of-a-kind day. Fill its moments with purpose, experience, feeling, wonder, kindness, and love.

Remind yourself how fortunate you are to be here, now, alive, aware, and able to make a difference. Share your good fortune by offering the best version of yourself to everyone you encounter.

Choose not to waste any of today’s precious time on things that bring you down or on matters that don’t really matter. Keep your focus on the beauty, on the goodness, on all you love.

Don’t rush ahead, don’t fall behind. Embrace each moment as it arrives and work to fulfill its unique opportunities.

The richness of your life does not live in some distant time or faraway place. It is here, now, ready to be experienced and expressed.

Step boldly forward and connect with the great value that is yours to live on this very day. Realize who you are, what you have, everything you can do, and be inspired to put it all, right now, to great use.

Make a difference

The fact is, you can make a difference. Will you, today?

Even if no one notices, even if no one understands, even if no one seems to care, you can make a difference. You can give the world a persistent nudge in a positive direction.

Sure, you could choose to skim along the glossy surface of life, and add to your stash of meaningless sensations. Or you can stop, dig in, and do the difficult, often thankless work, to make a difference.

Next time you pass a mirror, pause, take a look, and ask yourself, what do you really want to be doing with your life? Do you want to just upload pretty pictures of your face, or would you rather look others directly in the eyes and see the difference you’ve made in their lives?

There’s no such thing as a life well lived if it’s lived only in your narrow self-interest. Go beyond merely posing as someone who cares, beyond just voicing support for all the proper, impressive causes.

Find a way, your own special way, to make a difference. And do it.

Let life get to you

Let life’s wonder and beauty draw you in. Let life’s mystery and possibilities excite you.

Let life’s challenges generate fresh enthusiasm within you. Let life’s goodness inspire you.

Let life get to you in a way that is positive and energizing. Whatever the moment offers, let the brilliance, the love, the hope shine through.

Draw new strength from each experience. Find new respect, understanding, and compassion with every encounter.

Whether the day is stormy, or sunny, or somewhere in between, you have good things to do with it. Be motivated by what you see, what you feel, what you know, to give your best.

Open yourself anew to the wondrous experience of being alive. Let life get to you in a way that invigorates you into giving your best.

Realistically hopeful

What has happened, has happened. What you think about it, what you feel about it, what you do about it, that’s all up to you.

There may be ample reasons to feel despair. Even so, you can make the choice instead to be hopeful, and realistically so.

True hope is not an empty fantasy. It is a decision you make about how you intend to move forward.

Being realistically hopeful is being ready and willing to support your hope with your persistent efforts, your attitude, your commitment and priorities. Realistic hope is always possible because the situation will change, and your hope can influence the direction of that change.

Hope is much more powerful than a mere wish for things to get better. Hope energizes you to do the work that will make things better.

The world at times can lay great difficulty upon you. Meet it always with the power of real hope, and let that hope push you to transform each challenge into new achievement.

Seek harmony

Conflict leads to despair and destruction. Harmony supports, encourages, creates value, trust, and positive energy.

Focus your awareness not on what you oppose or wish to avoid. Instead, keep your thoughts and actions centered on all you love and support and wish to experience more of in life.

Those who have opinions and perspectives that are different from yours are not your enemies. Indeed, they can be your greatest teachers.

Seek to get beyond the urge to fight, beyond the need to prove yourself. Live on a level at which respect, understanding, and cooperation guide your interactions.

Discover how much more can be achieved through agreement and finding common ground than through argument and opposition. Use your energy along with others to build together rather than wasting it in tearing each other down.

Let go of your ego’s combative urges, and let the power of harmony into your world. The less you fight, the less you oppose, the more there is for everyone to create and enjoy.

Play in active role

When you come upon an opportunity, take it. When you discover a problem, solve it.

Play an active role in life each day. Get up, get out there, get busy, and get things done.

Make use of your energy and you’ll have much more of it. Put forth a little enthusiasm, and you will quickly feel that enthusiasm began to grow.

Join in without waiting to be invited or persuaded. Offer your action, your advice, your understanding, your kindness.

Keep yourself interested, informed, involved, and positive about making a difference. Always there is something good and worthwhile that you can do.

Life moves fast and is filled with richness. Move along with it, and add your own unique efforts and expressions to the richness.

Tomorrow will come

At the end of this day, what will you wish you had made a top priority? Now is your chance to do that.

At the end of the year, what will you wish you had done every day? Now is your opportunity to finish the year thankful instead of regretful.

The moment you’re in gives you great leverage over all the moments to come. Utilize that leverage while you have it.

It’s all too easy to get distracted, make excuses, waste your time. Remind yourself, though, that tomorrow will come and when it does, you’ll be thankful for making good use of today.

Tomorrow will come, and now is when you can maximize the value with which it arrives. Tomorrow will come, and with your efforts today you can position yourself to welcome it with confidence and enthusiasm.

Take the opportunity that’s yours today. Tomorrow will come, and there’s much you can do right now to make it a rich and fulfilling time.

Embrace now as it comes

Embrace now as it comes, live it fully, and you will always have it. Even after the clock and calendar have moved on, you will still have the experience of living this day.

So live it well. As the hours pass, let them find you doing what you love, what you believe in, what makes a difference.

Find joy in the simple moments as well as in the grand undertakings. Feel the warmth, taste the richness, notice the detailed texture as you move through it.

There’s no need to rush, and no cause to linger. Every experience is worth the time, and every time brings a worthwhile experience.

See the value in now as it comes, as each day flows from one situation to another. Act upon every opportunity to enrich your life and your world.

Forever add the value of now to your life by living it fully while it is here. Accept, allow, embrace, experience, improve, and enjoy, right now.

Celebrate what is good

Celebrate what is good. Appreciate what is right with the world, what works well, what contributes positive value.

You would not get through the day without a whole lot of things going right. Take a moment to remind yourself of the good fortune you normally enjoy without even thinking about it.

Much more often than not, your phone calls go through, your internet connection works, and the lights come on when you flip the switch. Just those three highly reliable services add great value to your life, and there are many more.

Yes, your seat is cramped and the flight is thirty minutes behind schedule. However, for a modest price you can safely travel to the other side of the world in just a few hours, and that’s pretty amazing.

There’s much to be repaired, much to be improved, many things that fail to go right, numerous disputes to be resolved. Yet there’s a whole lot more that works very well, and adds greatly to life, time after time.

Do your part to appreciate, support, protect, and preserve all the good things in life. Though you have the luxury of taking them for granted, you certainly wouldn’t want to be without them.

The changes come

Opportunities arise, equipment wears out, people change jobs, new products are introduced. You can be certain that in ways large and small, on a personal level and on a global scale, things change.

Tomorrow, next month, next year, will all be different than today. And being dismayed, resentful, or angry about the changes won’t make them go away.

A much more effective strategy is to pay attention, to accept that the world will change, to adjust and adapt and make positive use of changing conditions. You cannot stop life from changing, yet you can work within those changes to make them for the better.

Not every change is positive, yet you can always find a positive response to whatever the change may be. Most of the world’s changes are beyond your direct control, yet you do have much control over the way your own life changes.

Change is going to happen. So make the commitment in every moment to find new ways that you can do the very best with all those changes.

You can’t stop change but you can work to make it good, and thrive on it, and help others to do the same. Every day the changes come, and every day is your chance to give life even more meaning and value.

Enjoy the unenjoyable

Getting out of a warm bed into the cold morning will be uncomfortable. Yet you’ll quickly adjust, and will in fact be thankful and satisfied about getting an early start on the day.

Introducing yourself to that new person will be a little awkward. However, you’ll soon have a new acquaintance whom you’ll enjoy knowing.

Whatever you know you must do, go ahead and do it. Stop wasting your time and energy putting it off or overthinking it.

You may not get it perfect, yet you can get it done. It may not be the most pleasant experience you’ve ever had, but you’ll certainly survive.

And in fact, the more unpleasant it is, the better you’ll feel when you get it over with. So go ahead, do yourself a great big favor, and get it done.

Jump out of that bed, make that dentist appointment, write that report, hop on that exercise bike, and get it all behind you. Enjoy getting the unenjoyable stuff done, and discover there’s nothing that can stop you.

Choose the best thoughts

Build on the thoughts that serve you. Let go of the thoughts that don’t.

Every action begins with a thought. So choose the thoughts that lead to the most desirable, useful, productive, successful actions.

When a negative, limiting thought such as doubt or dismay appears, you can choose to make it disappear, to replace it with something else. If the negative thought should come back, you can kick it out again.

Changing the thoughts in your mind requires no physical effort, no long waiting period, no specialized skill. All that’s necessary is your intention to do so.

Think of a dark blue convertible driving along a winding, mountainous coastal highway just after sunset. If reading those words can change your thoughts, so can your own intention.

Your thoughts are continuously amplified by your actions into your experience of life. Choose the very best.

Know exactly why

How do you motivate yourself to take action? By being clear about the benefits of doing so.

How do you push yourself to get up, get going, and get the work done? By being brutally clear about the negative consequences of not getting it done.

If you don’t see the point, you’ll grab any excuse not to make the effort. When you understand in detail why you must act, you will act.

In any undertaking, there will be plenty of challenges. Don’t add to the challenges with your own apathy or reluctance.

Look beyond the effort and picture what it will achieve. Envision the satisfaction of doing purposeful work, of making a positive difference.

Immunize yourself from all the excuses. Know exactly why you’re doing it, precisely what it will bring, and you’ll be eager to do whatever must be done.

The journey to this day

You’ve put a lifetime of effort and energy into arriving at this day. Make whatever you do today worthy of all you’ve done to get here.

Respect the value of every experience that has come before by putting that value to good use now. Continue the momentum that is your life, and point it in a positive, fulfilling direction.

You’ve worked your way through sacrifice, challenge and trouble. This is your chance to make all the trouble worth the trouble.

Reward yourself in the best way possible for all the good work you’ve done. Give yourself that reward in the form of a day well lived.

Honor the skills, wisdom and experience you’ve worked so hard to assemble by putting them all to good use. Show gratitude for the good times you’ve enjoyed and the difficulties you’ve endured by filling today with richness and meaning.

You’ve successfully completed the journey to this day. Now, grab the new opportunity you’ve created and build on your good fortune.

Magnificent existence

Most of this hour’s breaking news will be forgotten by the end of the day. Don’t let yourself get pulled in by all the urgencies that really have no meaning.

Step back, breathe, and remind yourself of who you are. Connect your thoughts and feelings to all you truly love, to those things that actually matter.

There are plenty of people and companies who profit from keeping you distracted. But you don’t have to participate in the bargain.

Turn away from the glittering, meaningless freebies and shallow dramas that eat your time and numb your spirit. Fix your eyes and your awareness on the authentic beauty that is your life.

Focus on the possibilities for creating real richness. Engage yourself in the satisfying challenge of making a meaningful, positive impact.

Honor the magnificent existence in which you are immersed. Live each moment with substance, love, generosity and real meaning.

Bold and positive imagination

Let yourself imagine something wonderful. Then imagine yourself making it happen.

Think of an experience you’ve recently had, and imagine what would make it better. How can you imagine making it more positive, useful, productive, or enriching?

Reality is what it is, and at the same time is subject to immediate change. Allow bold and positive imagination to drive that change in your life.

You can imagine away the limitations. Then, inspired and informed by imagination, you can successfully transcend those limitations.

You can imagine a whole lifetime’s worth of fulfilling, beneficial scenarios. Then, you can imagine practical, workable ways to bring what you imagine to life.

What do you desire most for your life, your community, your family, your world? Dare to imagine it in rich detail, and let the power of your imagination push you to make it happen.

Great satisfaction

Eating a decadent helping of junk food feels good for about thirty minutes. Avoiding the junk, and sticking to a regimen of healthy, nutritious food keeps you feeling good all the time.

Making an impulse purchase of something totally unnecessary feels good, maybe for an hour or two. Avoiding those impulses, being financially responsible, knowing you can meet your obligations well into the future, feels good all the time.

The demands of living with discipline and responsibility may often seem burdensome. Yet if you were to abandon that discipline and responsibility, all areas of your life would suffer greatly.

Yes, life imposes a burden. The question is, will you willingly accept that burden and work to thrive within it, or will you run from the burden and thereby allow it to crush you?

Give yourself a life you can look forward to, not a life you must look back upon with regret. Feel good now about making the choices that will continue to keep you feeling good.

You can be strong, you can be diligent, and you can work with persistence to make life good in spite of its many burdens. Give yourself the great satisfaction of giving to life your best.

Depth of experience

Just because you’ve journeyed once to a particular destination, doesn’t mean you fully know and understand it. Go there again, and again, and you develop an ever deeper knowing and connection to the place.

Just because you’ve been through something once, doesn’t make you an expert on it. Depth of experience, built through repetition, can be just as important as breadth of experience.

If you require a surgical procedure, you prefer a surgeon who has done that same procedure thousands of times. You prefer a pilot who has logged thousands of hours flying the same kind of aircraft you’re on.

The second time you read a good book, you’ll gain new insights you never considered during the first reading. Sometimes the best new activity is an old activity, experienced at a deeper, more mature, informed, and thoughtful level.

The experience of living is more than just a superficial checklist to be completed. It is a wondrous territory to be explored, widely and deeply.

Don’t be so eager to see it all, know it all, do it all, that you rush from one thing to the next, failing to find meaning in any of it. Instead, give love, commitment, nourishment, and depth to each experience, and rise to ever-higher levels of richness and fulfillment.

Failure is easy

Failure is easy. All you have to do to fail, is nothing.

Failure is easy, yet it can result in a life that is very, very hard. If you take the easy way out too often, soon you can end up with no good way to go.

But a long time before you get to that point, you can vastly improve your trajectory by reminding yourself of this. The easy way is almost never the best way.

It’s tempting to let the little things slide, to blame your troubles on others, to avoid speaking up, to put off effort until later, and later, until it never gets done. But you deserve more from yourself, you deserve better, and so does all of life.

The easy way is not the way of the unique, creative, kind, caring, and purposeful person you are. You are equipped for decisive, effective, positive action, and capable of persisting in that action to reach the highest goals you can imagine.

Turn your attention away from the easiest choice and fix your focus, your energy, your commitment on the best, most enriching choices. Do the difficult work to live the good and fulfilling life that is your destiny.

Feeling great

If you’re feeling down, ask yourself this question. What specific positive action would make you feel better?

Push the negative thoughts out of your mind by thinking of ways to move forward. Focus your thinking on all that you love and on creating the best of what can be.

You don’t have to automatically think or feel a certain way just because something unfortunate occurred. You can decide for yourself how you want to feel, then think the thoughts and take the actions that will get you there.

It’s not nearly as difficult as it might seem. Once you make the intentional choice to feel better, you can quickly begin to act on that choice.

There is some positive, decisive action that will change your whole outlook in an instant. It could be something as simple as a smile, a brisk walk, a kind gesture, or anything you imagine.

Filled with wonder

Always, there is something new to discover. Always, you have new possibilities to explore.

Life is immense and you are situated right in the middle of it all. Everything you’ve ever experienced is only a small fraction of all you can now experience.

You can transcend whatever limits have previously confined you. You can expand your horizon beyond anything you’ve known before.

You can never run out of room to grow. There will never be any shortage of ideas to explore, or paths to follow.

As difficult as your problems may be, they are tiny compared to your possibilities. And a great way to get beyond those problems is to open yourself to more of the possibilities.

Let your spirit be filled with wonder at all the goodness and beauty that are possible. Then step forward, inspired and empowered by all the richness you can now experience.
