DISTRACTIONS
A loud noise. A television show. A distant conversation. What do these things have in common? They all are possible ways we can get distracted. But there are many more ways. Even the brief distractions in life can cause us to stop doing what we need to be doing. How do we stay focused? How do we keep on track? How do we try to do what is right and live for God when we have so many worldly distractions? Even being too busy can be a distraction when we get caught up in the work and forget why we are doing it. Let’s be sure we are living as God wants us to live by staying in His word, having quiet time with Him and building our relationship with Him. Let’s pray we don’t get distracted as we share His word and live to obey Him.
SCRIPTURE: Hebrews 12:2 “We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.” (NLT)
ACTION STEPS: 1. Write about the distractions in your life.
2. List what you do to ignore distractions.
3. Know God wants you to stay focused on Him.
4. Remember He can help you complete His will for your life.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, we want to stay focused on You. We want to remain in Your word, talk with You and listen to You so we know Your perfect will. Help us to ignore the distractions in life that keep us from doing Your will. Help us to seek Your face, read Your word and keep our eyes on You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
REMEMBER:
If we want to stay focused on God, we need to stay in His word.
Distractions can keep us from doing God’s will. Let’s put Him first in all we do so we aren’t so easily distracted.
When we remember our spiritual duties as believers and put them first in our lives, everything else will fall into place.
When we have a right relationship with God, He will help us to recognize distractions and stay away from them.
If we want to truly serve the Lord, we need to stop getting pulled away from Him with the distractions of the world.
FOCUS: 1 Corinthians 7:35 “I am saying this for your benefit, not to place restrictions on you. I want you to do whatever will help you serve the Lord best, with as few distractions as possible.” (NLT)
