EMOTIONAL INFLUENCE

Emotions. We all have them. How we control or use our emotions is critical in all we do. It is easy to fly off the handle and get upset with someone in the heat of the moment. It is easy to let our emotions or feelings take control. However, it is also wrong to lash out in an emotional moment. What we say or do when our emotions are out of control shows we are out of control and not focused on God's will. If we want to be an emotional influence to others, we have to allow God to work through us in all things.

SCRIPTURE: Ephesians 4:31-32 "Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you." (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write down the different emotions you have had lately.
2. List the things that have happened to trigger your emotions.
3. Pray asking God to help you put your trust in Him in all things.
4. Study His word and search for ways He can help control your emotions.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, we get so emotional sometimes. We get bitter. We get angry. We say harsh words. However, you tell us to be kind, tenderhearted and forgiving. We know we can't do these things without You. Help us to stay in Your word which help us remember how we are to treat others and how we are to control our emotions. We turn our thoughts, our minds and our emotions over to You, today, Lord. In Jesus' name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
There are all types of emotions. Some good. Some bad. Let's let God reveal to us what we should do with our emotions.

It is easy to fly off the handle in the heat of the moment but God tells us to stay calm and forgive.

It is easy to get angry and upset about what someone did but God tells us to be kind and tenderhearted.

There is a time and place for all emotions. We can find out where and when by reading God's word.

When our emotions are out of control, we can't positively influence others.

We can't control our emotions without allowing God to control our lives.

FOCUS: Ecclesiastes 7:3 "Sorrow is better than laughter, for sadness has a refining influence on us." (NLT)

When we get in touch with God rather than getting in touch with our emotions, He will teach us how to control our emotions.
