Ask and it will be given to you; ask with the right motive that is!
Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. Luke 11:9-10
When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. James 4:3
What is it we are asking Him this morning? What is the motive behind our plea? Do we intend on spending whatever we are asking for - for our pleasure or for His glory?
In the Gospel of Mark chapter 10 we read of an interesting conversation between James/John and Jesus:
Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him. “Teacher,” they said, “we want you to do for us whatever we ask.”
“What do you want me to do for you?” he asked.
They replied, “Let one of us sit at your right and the other at your left in your glory.”
“You don’t know what you are asking,” Jesus said.
Do we know what we are asking this morning? Let us get right with our motives before we ask for anything. Then it will be given to us.
Amen!
