Topic of the Week, words beginning with the letter "J"

J is for Just for Today. That is all I have, no guarantees on more, I choose not to use. In order to do that, I can't pick up a mind altering substance. Just in the moment, if I stop and look at what I am reaching for, I may find I have found a new substitution that my disease has led me to and I have allowed it to take over my life and be my God of the day.

Just for today, I don't have to pick up, no matter what.

J is for Jealousy. Want a harmful defect of character and is one of the 7 deadly sins I believe. It only hurts you. It is hurtful when you are the recipient of it, but it is a soul sickness when you act out on the emotion.

So often we think we want what someone else has, not realizing that what they have may not be good for you. It is a program of suggestion, each of us have to find a program that works for us instead of piggybacking on someone else's recovery. Even if it is our sponsor's, it will surely fail for us. I found that I had to go to meetings and get input and taking what I needed for my own recovery, even from those who I couldn't identify with. They say put it on the shelf, but I don't like dusting.

Instead of always taking, we need to give. Pray and ask your Higher Power for wht you need and He will put it in your path.

J is for Joy. Enjoy recovery. You have been given a second chance at life. Celebrate what is, don't stay in what was, and don't base tomorrow on the past, enjoy today as it comes.

Take joy in being together. You are no longer alone.

J is for Judge. Judge not lest you be judged. Not my job, and generally the jury is out when it comes to some of my decisions and sins of omission.

J is for Joke. Recovery is no joke, we have to get serious and work the program, but we can have fun doing it. As Tradition 4 says, "Don't take yourself so seriously." It was the laughter in the rooms that attracted me. It was a real gift to be able to laugh at myself, especially when I had been a real joker!

J is for Just for Today, I choose not to use. Just for today, I can stay clean and sober. Using is not an option for me. My God put many beautiful gifts for me to enjoy. They give me natural highs.

J is for Judge. Judge not lest you be judged. As it says in the 10th Step of the AA 12 & 12, what you see in others, is a reflection of what is within you. It takes one to know one.

Leave the judging up to God. He knows that other person's walk, you haven't travelled in their shoes.

J is for Just

Just for today...I am grateful to be alive and sober!

J is for Happy, Joyous, and Free. The Big Book promises this before we are half way through Step 9. Many think it is half way through the Steps, but it is Step 9 that gives us the joy of burdens lessened.

J is for Just don't pick up that first drink or drug. Reach out and ask for help. We can do what I can't do alone. We need a spiritual defense, one alcoholic/addict talking to another alcoholic/addict.

J is for Jump. Jump with joy. Celebrate this new life that we have been given. Each day is a new beginning, so have a great one.

Quote:

Van Halen – Jump Lyrics
I get up, and nothing gets me down.
You got it tough. I've seen the toughest around.
And I know, baby, just how you feel.
You've got to roll with the punches to get to what's real

Oh can't you see me standing here,
I've got my back against the record machine
I ain't the worst that you've seen.
Oh can't you see what I mean?

Might as well jump. Jump!
Might as well jump.
Go ahead, and jump. Jump!
Go ahead, and jump.

Aaa-ohh hey you! Who said that?
Baby how you been?
You say you don't know, you won't know
Until we begin.

Well can't you see me standing here,
I've got my back against the record machine
I ain't the worst that you've seen.
Oh can't you see what I mean?

Might as well jump. Jump!
Go ahead and, jump.
Might as well jump. Jump!
Go ahead and, jump.

Might as well jump. Jump!
Go ahead and, jump.
Get it and jump. Jump!
Go ahead and, jump.

J is for Just. When I hear myself say but or explain myself for saying, I am justifying my words and actions. I don't have to justify my reason for being. Just for today, I choose to live clean and sober.

J is for Joy. I will enjoy my day. I may have bad moments in a day, but I don't let them spoil my whole day. My day is what I make up my mind for it to be. Just for today, I choose joy.

J is for Jesus. He showed us how to walk this earthly walk. Ask yourself, "What would Jesus do?" We are asked to pray and ask in His Name.

J is for Jinx. Don't jinx yourself. We have a tendency to sabotage ourselves, be it good or not so good. We have trouble handling success as well as loss. Just trust the program.

We can do what I can't do alone.

J is for Just for You. Take care of yourself. Give yourself a hug. You are your own best friend. Learn to love yourself and all that love will bubbly up and spread to others.

J is for Just

Just for today, I will be happy. I will have a program. Just for today!

J is for Joy. If I am not enjoying sobriety, I must remember to ask myself, "What am I doing wrong." I have been given a second chance at life. Time to step up to the plate and be responsible.

J is for Joke. Recovery is serious, but that doesn`t mean I can`t enjoy it and have fun. It is a life and death program, but I can laugh at myself and the missed Steps along the way. I don`t have to be the joker and the life of the party, all I have to do is be me. I don`t have to wear those masks any more.

J is for Jello. That is how my legs felt for the first few months of recovery. I also feel like my stomach was made of jello when the old fears and bug-a-boos surfaced and I had to face them sober.

So glad that this program taught me to replace the fears with faith and I could go on a solid diet of recovery.
